With world governments set to meet on Monday to discuss the fate of the ocean floor and its precious ecosystems, it is clear that #DeepSeaMining is not only risky business but tragic for our climate and the health of our planet! 🌍 📢 A shout out to Simon Holmström for debunking the "green transition" myth that metal companies would like us to believe 👇
📢 New Article Up! 📢 Some businesses want to extract metals and minerals from deep sea needed for the green transition—a myth I happily debunked in my latest article published today in the Green European Journal. In this piece, I explain why halting #DeepSeaMining not only is the most sustainable thing to do, but also that it could drive innovation in sustainable resource management as a whole.🌍🌊 World governments meet on Monday to discuss the fate of the international seabeds in the International Seabed Authority. Am I hopeful? 🌐 Historic examples, such as the whaling moratorium or ban on mining in Antarctica, show us that the international status quo can be altered through political will and decisive action. This raises hopes that the ISA too can be transformed into an international body which effectively ensures marine protection and intergenerational justice. 🗝 https://lnkd.in/dREXd_Np Sustainable Ocean Alliance IUCN Deep Sea Conservation Coalition (DSCC) Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF) WWF Greenpeace Seas At Risk #Sustainability #ISA #ResourceManagement #DeepSeaMining #CircularEconomy #Sufficiency
