🆕 Today in Budapest, EU leaders adopted the Budapest declaration, which highlights the urgent need and determination to make the EU more competitive through a new European competitiveness deal. "The unprecedented growth of solar PV was a decisive factor in lowering energy prices during the energy crisis, and continues to be essential for EU’s competitiveness. The Heads of States are right to look for urgent measures in this respect. We ask EU leaders to boost electrification, grids and battery storage. Especially battery storage is a quick and effective way to reduce electricity price volatility. As our modeling shows, this combination can reduce day-ahead electricity prices by 25% by 2030 - a no-regret path toward a more competitive, secure, and prosperous European Union."  - Walburga Hemetsberger, CEO of SolarPower Europe. 💧 Today we attended the Renewable Hydrogen Summit #RHS2024 In the words of European Commission President, Ursula von der Leyen:   “We set clear targets. These are binding targets we all agreed on, and Member States have until May 2025 to turn them into national law. If done right, this will be a game changer, unlocking demand across the entire value chain and encouraging #RenewableHydrogen production to scale up across Europe.”   Our CEO, Walburga Hemetsberger, moderated a key panel on the support needed to unlock demand for renewable hydrogen for a competitive green economy and ensure that hard-to-electrify sectors can decarbonise.   Congratulations to the Renewable Hydrogen Coalition team for a fantastic event - we are already looking forward to #RHS2025!

Wrapping up a successful #AgriVoltaicsIFE in Madrid ☀🚜   Over the past 2 days, over 200 attendees, including solar and agriculture industry experts, researchers, and policymakers, gathered in Madrid for the AgriVoltaics Industry Forum Europe.   🌅 Opening the conference on Day 1 and presenting SolarPower Europe's new Agrisolar Handbook, our Deputy CEO Dries Acke stated:   "Farming is a critical sector that is facing challenges such as climate change. We are here in Madrid & we should take a moment to reflect on the brutal climate impacts the people and local communities in Spain are facing.   We need to think about solutions & that is what SolarPower Europe is doing ✅; we are proud to present a new report developed with the farming sector and with society"   📃 Later in the conference, Policy Advisor for Sustainability Lina D. gave a more detailed presentation of the report:   "Agrisolar is incredible: a win-win-win! 🌾 Up to 60% more crop yield increase thanks to agrisolar 💧 Up to 30% improvement in average water retention   The handbook is also aimed to inform decision makers; we worked on providing key policy recommendations to enable to rollout of agrisolar."   Antanas Karbauskas from European Commission joined valuable discussions during the event, providing insights into what the new Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) 👨🌾  could look like:   "We must support the establishment of #AgriPV in the #CAP... Member States usually have very broad definitions for what they support, and Agri-PV could be there.   The question is for the future CAP, what should be in the recommendations to encourage Member States to support Agri-PV and ensure that there are win-win-win situations."   Different sessions throughout the two days explored: 🗺 How regulation for Agri-PV differs across the EU 💶 Different finance models for Agri-PV & how to accelerate investment 🆕 Novel and upcoming technologies such as Peatland PV and Eco-PV 🐑 Livestock farming with Agri-PV & much more!   Conexio-PSE Intersolar The smarter E

🆕 Incoming EU Energy Commissioner Dan Jørgensen gets our vote! 🗳 Following his hearing at the European Parliament today, our Head of Regulatory Affairs, Naomi Chevillard said: "Mr. Jørgensen is focussed on realising – not reopening – the 2030 climate and renewables targets. In the first 100 days of the new Commission, they will present a plan to accelerate independence from Russian fossil fuels. To achieve this, we have the short-term solutions named by Jørgensen: renewables and grids, and they need to be delivered ‘on steroids’. This will be underpinned by system flexibility, which the Commissioner-designate rightly says is ‘about bringing down [energy] prices.’" Read our full reaction 👇 https://lnkd.in/eHZjbVeq #LetsFlex #SolarforEurope #ElectrifyNow #100daystoElectrify 📸© European Union 2024 - Source : EP

🆕 SolarPower Europe launches its Agrisolar Handbook   The Agrisolar Handbook is a key tool for supporting both the farming sector and solar developers, to address climate, energy, and food security concerns.   The paper identifies ten archetypes for supporting profitable business models of agrisolar, as well as showcasing agrisolar’s multiple benefits for the farming and energy sectors, including:   🌾 Up to 60% crop yield increase 🌡 Up to +7°C increase of soil temperatures during cold weather periods, and up to – 6 °C decrease of soil temperatures during hot periods 🐝 Up to 60% increase in pollinators observed on one project   “The future of farming is critical to the EU's food independence and resilience. Agrisolar systems boost the farm’s revenue, which can support productive and sustainable investments, and strengthens the farm’s climate resilience on its energy transition journey.” - Walburga Hemetsberger, CEO SolarPower Europe   The report will be presented to industry experts and policymakers today at #AgriVoltaicsIFE in Madrid.   Read the press release 👉 https://lnkd.in/e4sFDDd7 Intersolar Conexio-PSE Metabolic

💵 Tripling #renewables target requires $1.5 trillion investment annually between 2024-2030. Last month, the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), COP28 UAE, COP29 Azerbaijan, Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan, Government of Brazil, and Global Renewables Alliance (GRA), released the official progress report on tripling renewable energy and doubling energy efficiency at Pre-#COP29 in Baku.   The report reveals that there are significant gaps in progress towards tripling #renewables and doubling energy efficiency by 2030. Countries' upcoming Nationally Determined Contributions (#NDCs) must close the gap.   Some key takeaways include:   ➡ Renewable energy capacity must grow from 3.9 TW to 11.2 TW by 2030.   ➡ Current national plans are projected to leave a global collective gap of 3.8 TW by 2030, falling short of the goal by 34%.   ➡ Global collaboration and innovative financing are key, especially for emerging and developing economies (#EMDEs).   National governments must act now, and increase investments to deliver our 1.5°C climate goal!   Read the report 👇  https://lnkd.in/e3FNtXMQ   #NowDeliverChange #3xRenewables #SolarCanDeliver Global Solar Council (GSC)
