Transforming African Agriculture through technologies and innovative partnerships
About us
Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation (TAAT) program is funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB) to increase agricultural productivity in Africa through the deployment of proven and high performance agricultural technologies. It originated from the need “to execute a bold plan to achieve rapid agricultural transformation across Africa through raising agricultural productivity" that was declared by participants in the Dakar High-Level Conference in October 2015 and led to the formulation by the AfDB in June 2016 of the Feed Africa: A Strategy for African Agricultural Transformation. TAAT is aligned with the objectives of the Comprehensive African Agricultural Development Program (CAADP) of the African Union Commission’s NEPAD, namely to: 1) eliminate extreme poverty, 2) end hunger and malnutrition, 3) turn Africa into a net food exporter, and 4) position Africa at the top of agricultural value chains where it has a competitive advantage.

A Champion in Kenya Who Is Boosting Food Production and Transforming Lives In rural western #Kenya, Margaret Awinja has been volunteering with the African Development Bank Group’s Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation (TAAT) program implementing partner African Agricultural Technology Foundation (AATF) since 2008. The 50-something-year-old farmer & community leader runs the Western Region Farmers’ Network, and is passionate about introducing vulnerable Kenyans such as widows and persons with disabilities to climate-smart agriculture financed by the Bank's TAAT program. “I have the passion for my community. I have the passion for people with disabilities. I have a passion to help. I stand here as an African woman leader, who is also a widow,” Awinja says, estimating that through TAAT and AATF, she has improved the livelihoods of more than 10,000 vulnerable farmers. As world leaders & experts gather for the World Food Prize Foundation Borlaug Dialogue 2024 to discuss big picture issues around food security & agriculture, we salute individuals like Margaret Awinja who are making a difference in communities across continent: https://bit.ly/3YDRzPw #FoodPrize24 #FeedAfrica

It’s great to see CIP's active participation in Rwanda's World Food Day celebration! Showcasing such a variety of nutritious, Vitamin A-rich Orange Fleshed Sweetpotato (#OFSP) products and new potato varieties highlight the importance of these foods in promoting health and food security. Kudos to Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation (#TAAT), and #AIDI Great Lakes for financial and technical support, exposing these innovations and technologies to farmers and the general population. Dr Joyce Maru, Dinah Borus, Atayi Opaluwah, Ritha Bumwe, International Potato Center (CIP), Jean ndirigwe, Gerardine N Nyamunsi,
In Rwanda, World Food Day(WFD) was celebrated on 25 October 2024 in Nyamasheke district at the Country level. The International Potato Center (CIP) in collaboration with Rwanda Agriculture and Animal Resources Development Board under Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation (TAAT) and Great Lakes projects have participated. Our Exhibition booth was made of different varieties of the Orange Fleshed SweetPotato(OFSP) vines and roots, new varieties potato tubers, OFSP roots boiled, roasted, sauté, chips, OFSP made bread, Mandazi, cookies, cakes, Chapatis and porridge flour all rich in Vitamin A. Our visitors received a Leaflet containing the information on the OFSP and Potato as well. At the end of the WFD, farmers went home with a small bundle of vines and a flyer to go grow and read more about the OFSP. It was so exciting to see all of these on our booth right? Thank you so much Mark Bagabe, Patrick KARANGWA (PhD), DDG Florence Uwamahoro, the Ozonnia Ojielo the UN resident coordinator, and the FAO representatives for honoring us by visiting our exhibition booth. The malnutrition and mostly the vitamin A deficiency is a silent wall we need to fight louder together. Happy World Food Day again Fellows.
