We're thrilled to share that the University of Waterloo's Inclusive Physical Space Framework was recently honored at the 2024 Canadian Association of University Business Officers (CAUBO) annual conference, winning a prestigious award from the CAUBO Quality and Productivity Awards Program! Human Space, our dedicated inclusive design practice, was integral to this success. Collaborating closely with the University of Waterloo’s Plant Operations, Disability Inclusion, Human Resources, and Sustainability Office, we brought this visionary project to life. Through a deep dive into technical standards, community engagement, and the invaluable input from disability advocates and those with lived experiences, we helped create a resource that's now being embraced across universities and has the potential to impact sectors like municipalities. Indeed, the Inclusive Physical Space framework, recognized for its innovative approach to designing physical spaces that prioritize and look at the intersectionality between accessibility, well-being, and sustainability, marks a significant advancement in inclusive design thinking and process within the post-secondary sector and beyond. This award, accepted by Jacinda Reitsma, Vice-President, Administration and Finance at the University of Waterloo, highlights our unwavering commitment at Human Space to advancing inclusive design and making a meaningful difference in the built environment. Join us in celebrating this incredible achievement and the positive change it's driving!
