Combat Support Ship Asterix to be Fitted with Onboard Vegetable Farm Federal Fleet Services has announced the acquisition of four AI-based Virtual Agronomist systems to grow and harvest fresh vegetables onboard Combat Support Ship Asterix. This pioneering technology, provided by Agwa, is set to revolutionize the availability of fresh produce during extended deployments at sea. The Agwa system utilizes cutting-edge AI to create fully autonomous onboard vegetable growers. With three primary data branches—Image Analyzer, Sensory Data, and Consumer Behavior—the system's Virtual Agronomist continuously adjusts growth plans in real time to ensure optimal conditions for vegetable cultivation. John Schmidt, CEO of Federal Fleet Services, emphasized the significance of this advancement: "We are continuously striving to provide the best working and living conditions for our combined Federal Fleet and Royal Canadian Navy team onboard. Fresh leafy greens have a shelf life of around seven days, and our deployments offshore can be several weeks, so being able to grow our own onboard, available at any time, is a real game-changer. Who knows, maybe we will grow enough to be able to replenish other ships with fresh produce grown onboard Asterix." Eli Feiglin, Chief Commercial Officer of Agwa, likened the system to a coffee capsule machine: "The system is comparable to a coffee capsule machine with seed pods being inserted, and the AI systems control the rest. All the crew has to do is pick it. The system is very much suited to ships spending long periods at sea like naval vessels so we are proud to be working with Federal Fleet Services on this project." Alex Vicefield, CEO of Inocea Group, which owns Federal Fleet Services, added, "This is another example of where we are investing our own funds in technologies that are useful, pioneering, and contribute to the well-being and safety of the crew and vessel. Other recent examples include the installation of Starlink high-speed unlimited internet and the MARSS NiDAR Multidomain Command and Control System." This initiative marks a significant step in enhancing sustainability and self-sufficiency for naval operations, ensuring that fresh produce is readily available for the crew, regardless of deployment duration. #verticalfarm #crewwelfare #lifeatsea

_______________________________________ The Davie team made its presence felt brilliantly at the latest edition of the SMM Hamburg, an international maritime industry trade fair that attracted almost 40 000 participants. It was an exceptional opportunity for Alex Vicefield and all our colleagues to forge strategic business links with key players in our industry. A highlight of the event was Paul Barrett’s presentation, which underscored the importance of the ICE Pact for our sector and, above all, for the defence of NATO countries’ strategic interests in the Arctic.

Chief Communications Officer at Inocea Group & Chantier Davie Canada Inc.

🌍🚢 Privileged to join Alex Vicefield and esteemed colleagues in beautiful Hamburg this week. I spoke at SMM, Europe’s number one maritime trade show with more than 40,000 attendees. Big thanks to Business Finland for organizing and continuing to foster collaboration between the Finnish maritime industry and global partners. In a volatile world, allies must protect shared interests and values in the Arctic and polar regions from adversaries increasingly prepared for conflict. Transatlantic cooperation in specialized shipbuilding—especially the icebreakers our Group produces—is essential. The “ICE Pact”, a groundbreaking collaboration announced in July by Finland, Canada, and the United States, offers a promising way forward. In some respects, the ICE Pact can be seen as an “Arctic AUKUS” — a partnership that not only strengthens member countries but also safeguards all allies. Our companies are proud to contribute to the ICE Pact. Davie is building for Canada the largest order book of heavy icebreakers in the western world – seven high Polar Class ships under construction. Helsinki Shipyard , which has built 50% all icebreakers in the world (mind boggling!) will help further elevate Finland’s pre-eminence as a maritime powerhouse. Under the ICE Pact, we have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to set international standards for Arctic and polar shipbuilding, expanding members’ influence on the global stage. Carpe Diem! 🌊❄️ #SMM2024 #ArcticShipping #IcebreakerInnovation #TransatlanticCollaboration #ShipbuildingLeadership #ICEPact #MaritimeInnovation #BusinessFinland #Finland #Canada #UnitedStates #Arctic #AUKUS #Polar #Hamburg #Germany

Pour en savoir plus sur l’annonce d’aujourd’hui, rendez-vous au : https://lnkd.in/e4czrGVQ _____ Davie is proud to announce our intention to make a significant, long-term commitment to the American shipbuilding industry. This follows the publication of a Presidential Fact Sheet by the White House which explicitly highlights Davie and our ambitions for the U.S. shipbuilding industry. These developments stem from the Icebreaker Collaboration Effort or “ICE-Pact” jointly announced by the U.S., Canadian and Finnish governments during the NATO Summit earlier this month. We are in the process of identifying potential partners and sites to expand our international presence into U.S. shipbuilding. This plan aligns with today’s actions announced by the U.S. government to boost the efficiency, resilience, and competitiveness of the country’s shipbuilding industry. Davie’s combined operations in Canada, Finland, and soon the United States will be instrumental in safeguarding and strengthening allied sea power in these volatile times.
