Today, on #InternationalDayOfCharity, we are reminded of the importance of giving back to our communities. Whether you choose to volunteer your time or contribute through donations, giving back is one of the many ways #TeamDefiinty employees help our communities adapt and thrive. Definity’s culture of community impact continues to grow, here are some giving highlights from 2023, which showcase how our employees made a meaningful impact: ✅ We made a total of $2,601,000 in charitable donations. This total also includes causes brought forward by our family of brands, such as Petline Insurance Company, which continued to advocate for animal welfare, recommending more than $60,000 to humane societies and SPCAs across Canada; and Sonnet Insurance Company, which recommended a $50,000 donation to SickKids Foundation® to create Patient and Family spaces at the Hospital for Sick Children. ✅ $1,191,000 was donated to community investments in diversity, inclusion, and equity ✅ $902,000 was donated to community investments in climate resilience/emergency preparedness ✅ Employee-directed donations totaled $135,000 to charitable organizations, generating an additional $62,000 through our donation matching program ✅ In addition, four of our employee groups — the Anti-Racism and Cultural Equity employee group, LGBTQ+ employee group, Women’s Empowerment employee group, and Environment and Climate Action employee group — each directed a $20,000 contribution to an organization aligned with their advocacy work ✅ More than 4,500 volunteer hours logged, and 900 paid employee volunteer days used How do you plan on giving back to your community? I am finishing up my internship at Definity with a beautiful day of mini putt and lunch to celebrate our team's achievements so far this year and send a few of us off onto our next journey. This experience has been invaluable, and I am so grateful for the relationships I've built and the knowledge I've gained from this opportunity. I really tried to take advantage of the unlimited access I had to professionals during my internship by networking (chatting!) as much as I could. Based on the amount of people I bothered within the office I'll call it a success. Being a part of the Women's Empowerment Employee Group gave me the opportunity to host a speed-networking event at our Head Office with around 70 participants. The success we had at the event reiterates how important networking is at every point in our career. Thank you everyone - you know who you are!
