As the back-to-school season kicks off, what better way to celebrate than by diving into our latest case study on an inspiring academic space? We are excited to present our newly published overview on the Thomas P. Murphy Design Studio Building at the University of Miami School of Architecture, a state-of-the-art, LEED-certified facility, designed by Arquitectonica and built by Coastal Construction. The building's design not only reflects a commitment to sustainability but also showcases the crucial role of lighting in creating an innovative learning environment. Through the strategic selection of lighting fixtures, the Lighting Design Associates team achieved a balance between functionality, aesthetics, and environmental consciousness, demonstrating how thoughtful lighting can enhance both the building’s visual appeal and its energy efficiency. The selected Fluxwerx Fold suspended linear luminaires deliver iconic and seamless integration of optical innovation with minimalist industrial design. Installed as independent pendants and as continuous lighting systems with virtually seamless runs, Fold’s sustainable, energy efficient design delivers up to 119 LPW with power densities between 0.3 W/ft² and 0.5 W/ft². Zone control, continuous dimming, and sensors provide the needed control functionality; remote drivers allow fixtures to blend seamlessly with the design. Fold’s soft, organic form and the selected Arch endcap echoes that of the building’s exterior curved concrete cantilevered roof, delivering an unexpected and delightful design continuity and connection to the building’s architecture.
