Since Wendy joined the Board of Trustees in 2019, her leadership has guided the hospital towards reaching new heights in rehabilitation, supporting the re-opening and renovation of the Chadi Centre for Pediatric Rehabilitation, the funding of the Brain-Computer Interface Program, and the foundation’s rebrand – to name few. “We are incredibly grateful for Wendy’s commitment and visionary leadership,” says Mark Korthuis, President & CEO of the Glenrose Hospital Foundation. “Her guidance has helped us push the boundaries of innovation and strengthen our mission to provide life-changing rehabilitation services for Albertans in need. When 5-year-old Henry received a GoBabyGo car from local Alberta chapter of international organization, Variety, the Children’s Charity, his family never imagined he would one day drive it using the power of his mind. GoBabyGo, a movement that started in the United States, takes off-the-shelf power wheel toy cars and modifies them to make them accessible for children with limited mobility. For Henry, he’s never been able to drive his GoBabyGo independently due to the complexities of his condition. When the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital introduced a new modification to the car, pairing it with brain-computer interface (BCI) technology, he drove it for the first time on his own. In October, the University of Alberta BLINC Lab competed in Cybathlon 2024 – a rehabilitation technology ‘Olympics’ of sorts – where they raced against international competitors placing Top 8 in the upper limb (arm) prosthesis competition with their Bento Arm technology. The Glenrose Hospital Foundation is proud to have supported the lab at this last year’s competition!
