As global business leaders, policymakers, and civil society representatives prepare for Climate Week in NYC, our latest Radar public opinion polling results reiterate the urgency of the climate crisis, especially in countries we surveyed in Latin America and Africa and the Middle East. Although majorities everywhere worry about climate change, those who are more vulnerable to its effects tend to express the most concern. Pressure for climate justice in global climate talks will only increase as governments and businesses in the Global North will be expected to do more to bolster resilience and adaptation to climate change in the Global South. "Stakeholderism is becoming a cultural norm, and corporate leaders are increasingly realizing they cannot ignore the social and political context in which they operate" according to Gillian Tett in her recent article for the Financial Times.
A terrific and timely article by Gillian Tett in today's Financial Times showcasing the underlining requirements of business to attend to multiple stakeholders rather than just shareholder primacy. The world is too complex for companies to be linear in their focus and their ultimate license to operate depends on many stakeholders, as well as planetary conditions.

Our global expert panel identified the governments of Sweden, Germany, Denmark, and Norway as leaders in advancing sustainable development. Finland, Costa Rica, France, the UK, the Netherlands, and the European Union also rank in the top ten most recognized governmental institutions. The governments leading in sustainable development prioritize renewable energy, carbon neutrality, and sustainable cities. Costa Rica, the only Global South country in the top ten, heavily relies on renewable energy, protects almost 30% of its territory as national parks, and focuses on eco-tourism. These leading governments set an example for other countries to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and develop more sustainable ways of living. However, they must ensure that citizens see the benefits of these green policies to avoid potential backlash. Learn more about sustainability leadership in our upcoming webinar "Breakthroughs and Backlash: The Dual Forces Shaping Sustainability Leadership" with the ERM Sustainability Institute on September 19th: https://lnkd.in/eAzzymfx
