Private philanthropy can power the global response to the growing mental health crisis. We are already seeing philanthropy playing a unique role as an agile catalyst to action on mental health, but more transparency is needed. Today we launched the ‘Power of Giving’ report at The REAL Summit conference, celebrating the top philanthropic funders financing global mental health in 2023. Combining publicly disclosed information and detailed follow-up, the Power of Giving report celebrates the private companies, foundations and individuals investing in action on mental health around the world. Here are the top contributors listed in the report and the amount they’ve donated: ➡️ Movember ($17.3M) ➡️ Fondation Botnar ($11.6M) ➡️ Z Zurich Foundation ($11.5M) ➡️ lululemon ($11.3M) ➡️ Pinterest ($10.9M) ➡️ Grand Challenges Canada ($7.1M) ➡️ Cotton On Foundation ($6.8M) ➡️ kate spade new york ($4.2M) ➡️ EMpower—The Emerging Markets Foundation ($3.2M) More private and public investment is needed to help prevent mental health problems and make sure everyone has access to the support they need, particularly in lower income countries. We encourage more to join those already providing effective funding and more transparency around the amount of private funding for action on mental health, along with the detail and impact of this investment. Download and share the first ever Power of Giving report here > https://lnkd.in/eQ29Cs56 If you are a funder or know an organisation who should be included in the 2025 global survey, please register the work on the link above.

Had a wonderful few days in Berlin at the World Health Summit where I had the opportunity to attend amazing side events (One Europe for Global Health, Wellcome Trust) and sessions, to learn, and most importantly to connect with incredible people doing amazing work. I was glad to see climate and health as a key topic this year, and hopefully it will even be next year's theme. It has become impossible to discuss global health and the health of all life on this planet without acknowledging the impact of a changing climate. Grand Challenges Canada

Thanks to Sara Jerving of Devex for the thoughtful article on what makes the Transform Health Fund novel -- and why we need more private investment to achieve Africa's public health goals. “We’re in a moment where we have to be creative to meet Africa’s healthcare needs. We can’t expect that governments are going to be able to do that alone, or that donors are going to be able to afford that alone,” Edlund said. “We need creative models that can bring innovations to the market.” ...“That’s not an easy proposition. Healthcare is inherently a risky business, especially when you’re talking about really trying to improve quality, access, affordability, innovation, and sustainability for rural, periurban, and low-income audiences,” he said. How can 🎶 music help tackle mental health stigma and create spaces for young people to connect and share their feelings and experiences? In Kenya, there are only a few hundred #mentalhealth professionals for a population of over 54 million people. Stigma also prevents people, particularly young men, from sharing their feelings and experiences. 💡 We’re proud to support Sentum, who transform barbershops into safe community spaces where young men aged 18-29 can discuss their mental health. By commissioning local musicians to create mental health-themed songs, Sentum uses music to spark conversations and encourage young men to share their feelings. 🎧 Learn more about Sentum's initiative by listening to their recent feature on BBC World Service Podcasts: People Fixing The World here: https://lnkd.in/gK29UWdY Global Affairs Canada | Affaires mondiales Canada
