The United Nations established #WorldHabitatDay to recognize the critical role of housing in peoples’ lives. Today, Habitat for Humanity Canada continues to build on that vision, making sure more families, at home and globally, can access safe, decent, affordable homes. ----------- Les Nations Unies ont créé la Journée mondiale de l'habitat pour reconnaître le rôle crucial du logement au sein de la société. Aujourd'hui, Habitat pour l'humanité Canada continue de bâtir sur cette vision, en s'assurant qu'un plus grand nombre de familles, localement et mondialement, puissent avoir accès à des logements sûrs, décents et abordables.

Since 2011, Gordon Food Service - Canada (GFS) has been an incredible partner, helping families across Canada achieve affordable homeownership. They’ve donated $2.4 million and sponsored 17 homes. This year, they're back at it, sponsoring the Normandy St. build in Oshawa, welcoming even more families into their new homes. Thank you to the over 40 MPs who met with Habitat leaders today at #HabitatontheHill. There is a real sense of urgency around the need for affordable housing in Canada. And a recognition that affordable homeownership needs to be part of the strategy. The Members of Parliament we spoke to see the value of Habitat's work in their communities. They were open to hearing our solutions for putting more families on the path to owning their own home. We look forward to working together to continue making that a reality.

Today in Ottawa, Habitat leaders from across Canada are delivering a message to Members of Parliament: Homeownership is a key part of creating long-term, stable housing solutions. On the National Day for #TruthAndReconciliation, Habitat for Humanity Canada recognizes the tragic history and ongoing legacy of residential schools. We remember and honour the survivors, their families, and communities. We invite everyone to take this day to learn, listen, and support the work of Indigenous-led organizations providing healing and justice for survivors. ------------ À l'occasion de la Journée nationale pour la #VéritéetlaRéconciliation, Habitat pour l'humanité Canada reconnaît l'histoire tragique et les séquelles permanentes des pensionnats.
