Oxfam Canada, alongside childcare advocates, parents, and educators, celebrates the extension of the $10 a Day Child Care Plan until 2031. This $36.8 billion federal investment is a critical step in ensuring affordable child care remains a cornerstone of Canada’s infrastructure, benefiting families, children, and the economy. 🇨🇦With most provinces and territories on board, this plan supports Canada's economic security and growth, creating jobs and generating $2.80 for every dollar invested in child care. 💪We will continue advocating for improved conditions for early childhood educators and the expansion of non-profit and public child care to meet rising demand. This is a win for families and a step toward a stronger, more equitable future for Canada. https://lnkd.in/eEamkWHM #oxfamcanada #childcare #childcarecanada #advocacy

Ending Global Poverty Begins with Women's Rights #TheFutureIsEqual
About us
Oxfam Canada works with partner organizations in developing countries; tackling the root causes of poverty and inequity and helping people to create self-reliant and sustainable communities. Oxfam’s vision is a just world without poverty. We envision a world in which people can influence decisions which affect their lives, enjoy their rights, and assume their responsibilities as full citizens of a world in which all human beings are valued and treated equally. Oxfam Canada’s mission is to build lasting solutions to poverty and injustice with a focus on improving the lives and promoting the rights of women and girls. Working with Canadians, our partners and allies around the world, we mobilize people and resources to change policies, practices, attitudes and behaviours that create inequality and human suffering. When disasters strike, communities in Pacific Island nations like Tonga are on the frontlines. With rising sea levels and stronger cyclones, low-lying islands like Ha‘apai are at extreme risk. But thanks to foreign aid and partnerships with local organizations like the Civil Society Forum of Tonga and the Tonga National Youth Congress, Oxfam is helping communities prepare, respond, and build resilience. From disaster-preparedness training to securing clean drinking water, this work is life-saving. And here’s the thing: foreign aid WORKS. It helps people survive crises, lifts communities out of poverty, and makes the world, including Canada, safer. It’s less than 1% of the federal budget, but its impact is immeasurable. Investing in aid isn’t charity. It’s a commitment to a safer, fairer world for everyone. #AidWorks2025 Take Action today 👉 https://lnkd.in/eSBBDZYz

On February 12th, 2025, we raised our glasses to celebrate the progress made in advancing SRHR 🥂 Through our "Her Future, Her Choice" project, the lives of young women and girls in Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia, and Canada have been changed. So, we put together the event as a tribute to achievements over the years and to call for continued fighting for gender justice. We thank all partners, guests, and panelists who were in attendance. Canadians For Tax Fairness is coming to Edmonton on March 6 to talk about how we can build an economy that works for everyone—not just the wealthiest few. 🚨 The dismantling of USAID has delivered a devastating blow to global aid, and now other nations are slashing their foreign aid contributions. Canada must respond by stepping up and not back in providing foreign aid! For less than one percent of the U.S. federal budget, USAID has delivered critical and life-saving programs to millions of people in over 120 countries. This recent dismantling brings dire consequences and is a global catastrophe in the making. Please read our full thoughts in our latest blog. 👉 https://lnkd.in/e_AaNRUz

Oxfam is dedicated to supporting displaced communities on their journey back to their homes, or what's left of them. We understand that this journey can be exhausting, but it is worth it as people reunite with loved ones, friends, and their beloved Gaza. To help ease this transition, in partnership with the Palestinian Environmental Friends Association, Oxfam have installed latrines and water filling points in the streets, aiming to alleviate some of the challenges faced along the way. However, our commitment remains clear: we will continue to advocate for a sustainable and permanent ceasefire, along with unfettered access to aid for those in need. Together, we can foster hope and rebuild lives. ✌ 🆘 With a ceasefire now declared in Gaza, Oxfam is getting ready to rush in aid. We need every donation possible right now.
