    James Harrison and Tyrell Bain took the stage at FITC's #WebUnleashed to discuss how we’re using modern tools to bridge the gaps between design and development at LD! 🧩 Our headless #designsystem powers our Helios platform, acting as a single source of truth between design and code. Design decisions are powered by a tokens structure that allows for single components to be themed endlessly for different brands and contexts. Those tokens feed into an automated pipeline which means that designers can make visual changes within their design software, and push those changes right onto our front end. By standardizing the language and documentation of #components in design, we’re making handoff more clear, and more consistent. We’re now using Figma's dev mode to provide #token documentation, and to directly connect components in design software with their coded counterparts. Finally, we’ve adjusted the handoff process for features or full experiences to deliver the right information at the right time, giving developers a blueprint to build up complex experiences instead of trying to match a picture, or dig through a complex flow. All of the work we’ve done to improve the quality and efficiency of our products really boils down to finding better ways to communicate clearly, and making sure that we’re moving forward speaking a common language. 🤝

The team has overhauled the tech behind the scenes to significantly enhance the digital experience. Here’s what’s new with Joe Fresh 3.0: 🚀 Powered by Helios: re-built from the ground-up with our in-house Helios engine for improved performance and reliability 🎀 SDUI components: modern and customizable UX elements to support e-commerce campaigns big and small 📱 Mobile-first design: optimized for mobile with enhanced navigation, search and accessibility These upgrades will enable the Joe Fresh team to easily scale campaigns based on evolving e-commerce needs and customer demand, all while maintaining the experience and stability that our mobile users expect from the app. These updates come just in time to shop our newest collab with Jillian Harris! 🌷

    Senior Developer at Loblaw Digital

    FITC was one of the first conferences I attended when I started my dev journey, so stepping up as a speaker for the first time was a surreal experience! I was joined by James Harrison to talk about designer and developer collaboration, which is an important relationship on any team, but especially on a design systems team. The room was packed, and I loved seeing how many people were into the talk! We dove into ways to bridge the gap between design and development by using things like common language and automation, leveraging all the latest Figma features (dev mode and code connect) to make the process smoother and more fun. Huge thanks to everyone who came out and to FITC & Loblaw Digital for the chance to share.
