It is with great sadness that we share the heartbreaking news of Taj Kassam’s passing on Saturday, August 31st.   It is extremely difficult to summarize the total impact and legacy that Taj created. For all of us in Northland Properties and the Sandman Hotel Group, he was a pillar of strength and sensibility, a brilliant individual who believed strongly in leading by example. He treated every person he met with a level of respect and compassion that was comparable to that received from a close family member. For any of us fortunate enough to have met or worked with Taj, there was always an offer of some guidance, a story, or a joke to brighten our days.   His presence will be dearly missed by us all and our thoughts continue to remain with his beloved wife, children, and grandchildren during this time.   If you have a photo, memory, or message of condolence that you would like to share with the Kassam family, please feel free to send it to rememberingtaj@northland.ca.

A 3x winner of Canada's Best Pastry Chef, Chef Kenta not only brings the requisite traditional French panache to the line at Boulevard, but his Japanese heritage also lends a modern and sophisticated twist to each exquisite dessert he creates. An award-winning pastry chef in his home country, Chef Kenta worked in a number of restaurants in Tokyo and Kanagawa before coming to Vancouver and continuing to hone his craft under renowned pâtissier and chocolatier Thierry Busset. Armed with the discerning eye of a true artist and the classic skill and training of a chef, Chef Kenta oversees Michelin recommended Boulevard’s menu of tantalizing desserts as well as its varieties of flaky pastries and fresh-baked breads created in-house each day. This week saw the 14th edition of Northland Properties' Summer Survivorship, our annual office sporting event. Our people are the foundation behind our growth and success and this yearly gathering allows team members across all of our brands and departments to unwind, reconnect, and have fun. Thank you to all of our fantastic participants, brilliant team captains, and incredible organising committee for making this happen. In partnership with Northland Cares, we are delighted to share the incredible results of the national fundraising initiative Dencan Restaurants Inc. held earlier this Summer in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada (BBBSC). With thanks to their loyal and valued guests, Denny's Canada successfully 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 $21,000 by donating $2 from every Berry Stuffed French Toast Slam ordered between June 11 - 25 in participating locations. This substantial amount will go towards providing Canadian youth with the opportunities to reach their full potential and ensure a strong continuation of support for local communities.
