Right To Play protects, educates and empowers children to rise.

About us

PLAY. It’s at the heart of everything we do. It educates, empowers and protects girls and boys, allowing them to be successful in their own learning and development, and prepares them for their future. We believe in a future for every child driven by opportunity, empowerment and possibility. With programming in over 18 countries, we transform the lives of more than one million children each week inside and outside of the classroom. In addition to our work with children, we advocate with parents, local communities, and governments to advance the fundamental rights of all children. Right To Play is headquartered in Toronto, Canada with programs in Africa and Asia, the Middle East and North America in both development and humanitarian contexts.

Today, in partnership with University of Rwanda College of Education, we certified 772 lower primary teachers who completed a Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Course on Learning Through Play under our project dubbed ‘E-Training and Certification’. In 2022, in partnership with Ministry of Education Rwanda, University of Rwanda College of Education, Rwanda Basic Education Board, and the National Examination and School Inspection Authority, we started training for more than 3000 teachers on how to use play in their lessons to make learning more fun and engaging for students. This innovative program was offered partly online, and partly in person – the first blended course focused on play-based learning in Rwanda for teachers of grades 1 to 3. We extend our special thanks to the Government’s institutions who have helped us to run this program.

1 in every 6 children lives in a region affected by violence. Play helps those children hold onto hope, and gives them a chance to find their inner strength, so they can turn an uncertain future into a brighter one.

As children in much of the world begin a new school year, we are celebrating #WorldLiteracyDay. We use games and play-based learning activities to help teach children to read and write more effectively, with a particular focus on ensuring that girls and children with disabilities have equal access to a quality education. Every child deserves the opportunity to learn. #Literacy #Tanzania

Last year, we worked with our partners in Ghana to train 48,000 kindergarten teachers, so that they could more effectively engage their students. Playful activities like alphabet hopscotch help teachers reach children at their level, so they can learn their letters, numbers, socio-emotional skills, and a develop of love of learning itself. Read more about our impact last year in our Annual Report: https://lnkd.in/gjqzu9Zk
