About us
With 69 local United Way Centraide offices serving more than 5,000 communities across Canada, the United Way Centraide Movement is helping to improve lives from coast to coast to coast. Locally and nationally, our goal is the same – to create opportunities for a better life for everyone in our communities. Our unique approach focuses on meeting immediate needs while also addressing the underlying conditions that make people vulnerable in the first place. When you give to United Way Centraide, you are investing locally in three areas that are crucial for our country to thrive: 1) Moving people from poverty to possibility 2) Helping kids be all they can be 3) Building strong and healthy communities United Way Centraide Canada, the national office, was founded in 1939. It plays a critical role in providing national leadership and membership support for the network of local United Ways and Centraides across Canada. As a Canadian Movement with a strong heritage, we value trust and integrity, volunteerism, innovation, partnership, non-partisan leadership, and diversity. It is on the basis of these values that we improve lives and build communities. Visit our website at www.unitedway.ca or www.centraide.ca. Through February, United Way Centraide proudly recognizes Black History Month. We honour the powerful contributions of Black community leaders, both from the past and the present, in shaping our heritage, communities, and creating a rich and multi-cultural, inclusive Canada. As we reflect on this, we also know that systemic racism exists in our institutions, across all sectors, and has caused significant disparities with long-lasting impact, particularly for Black individuals and communities. Today, Black women and men earn, on average, $15,000 and $23,000 less, respectively, than their non-racialized counterparts. This reinforces our commitment to advancing equity, inclusion, and opportunity. Together, we remain dedicated to building a more equitable future for all.

📢 Calling all charities! As the holiday season approaches, the ripple effects of the Canada Post strike continue to hit our sector hard. The federal government must act NOW by extending the 2024 donations receipting period, giving Canadians the chance to make their year-end contributions despite these disruptions. While the sector has worked hard to gain support from MPs, recent political events have delayed progress on this straightforward solution. Imagine Canada, Cooperation Canada, and the Health Charities Coalition of Canada are calling on all organizations to join this advocacy effort by signing onto our open letter: https://lnkd.in/e6ccd9Cp Your voice matters—help us ensure the government takes action to support the charitable sector at this critical time.
