Humble Beginnings: A Journey of Growth and Transformation In 2017, I made a pivotal decision to return to school for my Red Seal in welding. In the very first week, I took a bold step—bought a welder on my credit card, another on my girlfriend’s, and launched a business right out of my dad’s garage. At the time, I had zero business experience, was incredibly introverted, and lacked the social skills needed to navigate the business world. But what I did have was an unstoppable drive to work and create. Who could have predicted that this business would become the catalyst for transforming me into the person I am today? It forced me to confront and overcome the internal barriers that held me back from truly serving others and making an impact. In 2019, we took a significant step forward, incorporating from Taylor’s Precision Welding & Fabrication to Welding & Industrial Technology Solutions—W.I.T.S. Metal Fab Inc. We maximized every inch of our shop space, even extending into the parking lot and setting up a tent out back for materials, thanks to the support of an incredible landlord and understanding neighbors. By 2022, we made a daring leap into our current 27,000 square-foot shop in the old Campion Marine building in Kelowna. Managing a facility of this size was a whole new challenge—vastly different from managing just myself and a small team. But through perseverance, the trust of our clients, and the unwavering support of our community, we’ve continued to grow. Today, we pride ourselves on delivering exceptional quality work on time while fostering a culture of connection and support within our team. Today’s Project: Secondary Stacker Hoist. Our team did a great job fabricating and assembling this unit. One issue that came up, which wouldn’t be an issue in other circumstances, was the HSS supplied to us had the weld seam in the wrong location causing the lengths to be deformed by 1/8” which is out of tolerance for the hoist knee. Our local supplier was great and found some material in their yard that was to spec and happily replaced it for us. This project required precision machining and fabrication to ensure all the components installed work properly. We must ensure that the shaft is level, and the knee roller is at the same position at all knee locations before installing the lower cam follower. Then we can install knees and knee connector bar followed by upper cam followers, shear arm and shear bolt. Adjust the upper and lower eccentric cam followers to level the knee ensuring the knees can move back and forth smoothly. Adjust the hear arm eccentric cam follower to remove clearance to knee and install bearing keepers, then it is ready to operate!   #forestryequipment #sawmill #welder #steelfabrication #metalfabrication #machineshop

This year has brought a lot of uncertainty with most of our work in the forestry sector being cancelled and pushed off until a date to be determined. We had to make some strategic moves to diversify quickly which means learning a lot in a short period of time! Our team has stepped up in a huge way and it’s because of them that we were able to thrive in these unprecedented times. One of the ways we show appreciation is company lunches every month and as you can see, we were kicking off Canada Day long weekend by enjoying amazing food thanks to the Specialty Bakery at 833 Finns Rd.
