The Faculty of Science at the University of Waterloo encourages curiosity, innovation and entrepreneurship to expand our understanding of the living and physical world. Our Faculty and graduate students work on the leading-edge of science research. Internationally renowned faculty members include a Nobel Laureate, two Canada Excellence Research Chair Laureates and 13 Canada Research Chairs.
Undergraduate students are empowered with this knowledge through experiential learning opportunities, co-op placements, and hands-on education in lab work and field courses. The Faculty of Science is also committed to delivering programs and enrichment activities through community outreach to increase awareness of the importance and value of Science to society.
The Faculty offers more than 50 core science specializations and options in the Departments of Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Sciences, and Physics and Astronomy. It is also home to two world-class professional schools, Canada’s only English-speaking School of Optometry and one of only two Pharmacy Co-op programs in North America.
Since its origins in 1957 as a founding faculty of the University of Waterloo, the Faculty of Science has become a research leader nationally and internationally.
