Yesterday marked the International Day of Democracy, offering a moment to reflect on the health of our democratic systems. Sadly, democracy has been in decline for 17 consecutive years. One particularly troubling trend - causing widespread concern across continents - is the disengagement of young people, with fewer than 57% actively participating in elections. But is lowering the voting age the solution to this decline? In her latest blog, our Executive Director, Louise Thivant-Johannsen, explores this question. 🌟 We are thrilled to share our inaugural Annual Report! 🌟 At a time when we hear children and young people call for more meaningful, inclusive, and effective participation in decision-making, we are heartened to observe a growing commitment to working more closely with children and young people across sectors. The Child and Youth Friendly Governance Project was established in 2023 with a mission to empower decision-makers, children, and young people to collaborate in a manner that is meaningful, safe, and generates results for all. Reflecting on our first year, we are proud to have: ✅ Heard from over 20,000 children and young people in over 80 countries in 2 regional and 1 global consultation ✅ Supported the establishment of 4 child and youth advisory boards ✅ Collaborated with over 20 partners, including UNICEF, Ministerio de Juventud e Infancia, Save the Children International , Eurochild, SOS Children's Villages International, Ingka Group, the LEGO Group, and many others ✅ Supported partners in developing participation strategies and safeguarding policies aligned with international standards and good practices ✅ Convened training sessions on child rights, participation, and child safeguarding for children, young people, and decision-makers across sectors ✅ Supported children and young people in developing critical life skills and agency ✅ Helped partners strengthen their monitoring and evaluation to demonstrate the positive impact of participation ✅ Supported children and young people’s participation in the global campaign for the International Day of Play, endorsed by the UN General Assembly ✅ Engaged over 290,000 people online 📙Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/dTM9k3Jv This work was made possible by our partners, supporters, and the thousands of children and young people who trusted and collaborated with us this year.
