Digital Building Processes since 2007

Info

Providing the missing link: As pioneers of building information modeling, we close the process chain that links a construction idea to its fabrication. For years we have enabled non-standard projects of high complexity to take flight and have supported architects, planning experts and manufacturers in reaching new heights of efficiency, safety and quality. We assist our clients with digital planning to harmonize form, function and construction. We provide premium digital fabrication that enhances safety and efficiency from design to production. Our customized software solutions go far beyond standard CAD/CAM applications, and our consultancy services open up new ways of thinking. Innovation is part of our DNA, and we work with universities and industry partners alike on research projects and in specialist conferences, while also contributing expertise as external consultants. D2P Components go Open Source Have you ever struggled with structuring a model that is composed of a variety of different geometries and attributes that somehow still belong together? Do you usually go for a coffee break after changing an input parameter? Rest assured, building a well-structured, scalable and robust parametric model is not an easy thing to do! After digging into the topic for more than 15 years, we at Design-to-Production decided it is time to share our approach to Parametric Modelling with the world, both as a brief Modelling Guideline and as a set of Grasshopper Components helping you to adhere to it. Check out the beta release on Food4Rhino: components.d2p.ch If you want to get in touch, Hanno and Bastian will be at the Design Modelling Symposium in Kassel starting today. See you there!

PROJECT  Utilising advanced parametric design and 3D modelling, together with the project participants HESS TIMBER optimised material usage and minimised waste, contributing to cost predictability together with ISG as the Main Contractor. Off-site prefabrication accelerated installation timelines, reducing on-site labour and enabling early occupancy, thereby maximising long-term operational efficiency. “This project demonstrates for the wider construction industry that CLT and timber in general can be as effective as concrete in biophilic design. This will lead other clients to consider timber for buildings that they traditionally thought not possible in timber, therefore helping the mass timber industry and remove excuses not to consider a low carbon option for project developers and other stakeholders within the construction industry.”   – Rensteph Thompson, Managing Director at HESS TIMBER More Information about the project: https://lnkd.in/d6GmAUqi  Client: UCB Biopharma UK  Architect: Heatherwick studio; Veretec (UK)  Structural Engineer: AKT II  Timber Contractor, Supplier & Engineering: HESS TIMBER   Subcontractors to HESS TIMBER:  Timber Manufacturer: HASSLACHER NORICA TIMBER  Timber Installation: L+S Baucon GmbH   Digital Planning & Parametric Modelling: Design-to-Production    The project has been shortlisted as a finalist in four categories at the Structural Timber Awards 2024: https://lnkd.in/gfVHqpR7 #fromwoodtowonders #timberlimitless #UK #timber #construction #architecture #STAwards

Schwarz D Pavilion: A Masterpiece of Modular Design at IASS 2024 Prof. Markus Hudert and his team at Aarhus University are presenting the Schwarz D. Pavilion at the IASS 2024 in Zurich. This 3-metres high installation scales up from the team's previous works, including last year's display at the IASS 2023 in Melbourne! At the heart of this structure are 190 planar wooden panels, 162 of which are pre-assembled 3x3-panel modules, connected with precision using demountable butterfly connectors, highlighting the potential of this modular design. We (Design-to-Production), SJB Kempter Fitze AG and Kuratle Group AG took an active part in the project development as member of the Création Holz Competence network. We provided Design-for-Manufacture-and-Assembly expertise as well as digital planning and fabrication data while SJB supported the detail development and structural calculation and Kuratle Group was in charge of CNC-production, logistic and assembly. You can see the pavilion in person at the ETH Hönggerberg Campus until the end of IASS 2024! Our paper "Post-analysis of Wisdome Stockholm: a comparative study of building model versus constructed geometry" has been accepted for the IASS 2024 conference next week in Zurich! The paper presents a post-analysis of Wisdome Stockholm, evaluating the accuracy of the built structure against the building model. We also examine the non-developable nature of the beam geometry and analyse internal stress calculations of the timber gridshell. Our goal with this paper was to deepen our understanding of the accuracy of architectural and structural models in complex bent-on-site free-form timber structures. These insights are set to shape the future of timber gridshell construction, driving the evolution of methods and models for even greater precision and reliability in architecture and structural design. Thanks again to the timber team of Wisdome Stockholm for the great collaboration, and shout out to the authors of this paper for pushing the boundaries of timber knowledge: Evy Slabbinck (Design-to-Production), Stefan Rick (SJB Kempter Fitze AG), David Riggenbach (Blumer Lehmann ) and Moritz N. (Design-to-Production) Presentation: Wednesday 28.08.2024, Working group 12, 9:30-11:00 Tekniska museet #designingthefuture #wemastercomplexity

We couldn’t let you miss out on our latest renders! UCB Collaboration Hub in Windlesham (UK), designed by Heatherwick studio, connects the existing facilities around it with a warm timber centrepiece. The 15-metre high CLT outer walls fold in and out, supporting three storeys of mass timber slabs and beams. It is constructed from discretised flat CLT segments prefabricated to embed every required connection detail. The inner and outer CLT layer of the curved walls is milled to match the intended curvature. Special attention was paid to the quality, details, fibre direction, and finish of the CLT elements as most of them remain visible once the construction is complete! We supported the German timber contractor HESS TIMBER with project management, detail development, setting out and reference geometry, and created a fully detailed parametric model. Ultimately, we detailed and created digital fabrication data for 1'251 timber elements. Completion is planned for 2025 Client: UCB UK & Ireland Architect: Heatherwick studioVeretec General Contractor: ISG Construction Limited Timber Contractor, Supplier & Engineering: HESS TIMBER Digital Planning & Parametric Modelling: Design-to-Production Picture 3 by ISG
