Sustainable Energy in Displacement Settings
Info
The Global Platform for Action on Sustainable Energy in Displacement Settings (GPA) is the global initiative to promote actions that enable sustainable energy access and use in displacement settings, as laid out in the Global Plan of Action Framework. The GPA strives to remove barriers to energy access in humanitarian settings by providing a collaborative agenda for energy, development, and humanitarian partners to deliver concrete actions of Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG 7) for displacement contexts. It promotes and contributes to the humanitarian sector's transition to renewable energy, which will increase efficiency and reduce costs and carbon emissions. Hosted by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), the GPA Coordination Unit galvanises collective action towards the GPA's realization. The Steering Group is the primary body responsible for the overall direction, development and implementation of the GPA at the global level. It includes representatives from the following organisations: UNITAR, UNHCR, IOM, GIZ, WFP, FAO, Chatham House, Practical Action, UNEP, UNDP, Clean Cooking Alliance, MercyCorps, Sustainable Energy for All, SNV, Lifeline Fund, and MECS. The Coordination Unit is responsible for the day-to-day coordination of activities associated to the GPA Framework, ensuring progress towards its goals, streamlining efforts of key stakeholders and the implementation of the GPA activities. It is hosted by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and kindly supported by the Federal Foreign Office of Germany, the Norway, NORCAP and MECS.

🌍 Exciting News! The Global Platform for Action (GPA) is proud to have contributed to the development of the newly released Roadmap for the Brazil #G20 Presidency’s Clean Cooking Strategy, which outlines key actions to ensure universal access to clean cooking solutions by 2030 and to achieve the net-zero emission target by 2050. ⚡📣Why This Matters: Today, over 2.1 billion people globally lack access to clean cooking solutions, putting millions of households’ health at risk and slowing our global energy transition. Despite recent strides in energy access, progress remains slow, impacting especially those reliant on traditional, polluting cooking methods. ➡️This report is a call for evidence-based, inclusive policymaking that centers marginalized groups—including indigenous, #displaced, and other historically underserved communities. The roadmap emphasizes the importance of recognizing and addressing the diverse needs of the most vulnerable as essential to a sustainable clean-cooking transition. 💡 To drive this forward, multi-stakeholder collaboration will be crucial. Partnerships spanning development, humanitarian, and government sectors are essential to building policies that work for everyone, everywhere. ➡️🔗Download the report here: https://lnkd.in/dhfeJrzc Iwona Bisaga International Energy Agency (IEA) Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) ESMAP - Energy Sector Management Assistance Program #CleanCooking #HumanitarianEnergy #G20 #EnergyAccess #NetZero #SustainableDevelopment #InclusiveGrowth
