It’s #WorldWaterDay and this year’s theme is Glacial Preservation. Glaciers are melting faster than ever. As the source of water for billions of people, they supply streams, rivers and lakes in and around which biodiversity and human populations can thrive. Ice melt is already causing severe disruption in ocean currents as it already impacts ocean salinity in the surrounding water, potentially altering coastal ecosystems and shifting species ranges. It also unfairly impacts sea-level rise around the world. Of course the simplest solution, to quote David Attenborough, is to “stop doing the bad stuff”: carbon emissions. These professionals were essential in monitoring climate change, forecasting severe weather, protecting endangered species, and ensuring clean air and water. With fewer experts tracking vital data, our communities face increased risks—from extreme weather events to ecological collapse. What You Can Do: •Share the work and findings of displaced scientists— truth must still be heard. •Build community networks to share reliable environmental information. •Speak up. Demand science-led policy and environmental protection. We cannot build a “stronger economy” without a livable planet. Our future depends on each other now more than ever.
