🚀 Pula, Safaricom PLC, and the Kenya Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development: Unlocking the Next Frontier for Agriculture & Finance in Kenya 🌱📲 Last week, Pula had the privilege of meeting with key visionaries, including Michael Joseph (Founding CEO of Safaricom), Hon. Mutahi Kagwe CS of Agriculture, and the former CS of Telecommunications, to discuss the next big revolution—a collaboration between telecom and agriculture to scale financial resilience for smallholder farmers. M-PESA Africa revolutionized payments, savings, and credit access for millions since its establishment 18 years ago. Now, we explore the possibilities of how we can leverage mobile technology to make agricultural insurance mainstream, ensuring 1 million farmers in Kenya are protected against climate shocks. Whether it is scaling crop & livestock insurance, seamless payouts via mobile wallets, access to credit and input financing or data-driven risk management for farmers. By combining Safaricom’s mobile reach and Pula’s insurance expertise, we can create a game-changing model for agri-finance inclusion. This partnership has the potential to bridge the gap between financial security and productivity, ensuring smallholder farmers thrive despite climate uncertainties.

Hi🌱 Benin Launches Landmark Agricultural Insuranc: insuring 100,000 smallholder farmers by the end of 2025 🇧🇯🚀 Exciting news from Benin! Pula, in partnership with the Government of Benin, FNDA, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, LuxDev, and NSIA INSURANCE LIMITED, has officially launched a groundbreaking agricultural insurance initiative aimed at insuring 100,000 smallholder farmers by the end of 2025. The government of Benin also invested in the Crop Insurance with the support from the technical and financial partners. This milestone marks a critical step in protecting farmers from climate risks while unlocking access to finance and boosting productivity. With agriculture employing over 70% of Benin’s population and contributing 30% of GDP, climate shocks—such as droughts and floods—have long posed a threat to food security and farmer livelihoods. To address these risks, this new initiative subsidizes 80% of insurance premiums, ensuring financial protection for rice, cotton, and livestock farmers. 💡 Why this matters: ✅ First payouts already underway – 11,000 rice farmers received insurance coverage in 2024, demonstrating the program's real impact ✅ Financial security for farmers – With climate insurance, farmers can access credit, invest in modern practices, and grow their businesses ✅ Public-private partnerships at work – This initiative showcases how collaboration can drive resilience in agriculture and reduce the need for emergency donor funding Thanks all our partners and team members Catherine LIZIARD Pierre SAGARA African Risk Capacity Ltd. Today, the EUDR compliance registration team successfully registered the State Minister of Microfinance, Hon. Haruna Kasolo Kyeyune, as part of the nationwide effort to ensure Uganda’s coffee farmers meet the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) requirements. Led by PULA Advisors, the team is taking compliance registration directly to farmers, ensuring that Uganda’s coffee sector remains competitive in international markets. To date, over 600,000 farmers have been registered—a significant milestone in safeguarding Uganda’s coffee exports and promoting sustainable, deforestation-free coffee production. In a major step forward, the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF Uganda) has signed MOUs with PULA Advisors to register an additional 700,000 coffee farmers across Uganda. This expansion underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring that Uganda’s coffee remains a premium, compliant product in global markets. At aBi Development, with the support of the European Union and the Embassy of Denmark in Uganda (RDE), we are committed to working alongside our partners to ensure that Uganda’s coffee industry not only thrives but does so sustainably. EUDR compliance is not just about meeting regulations—it’s about securing the future of our coffee farmers, protecting our forests, and positioning Uganda as a global leader in responsible agribusiness.
