As climate-related disclosure requirements tighten globally, addressing Scope 3 emissions has become a key priority for businesses, given that supply chain emissions are, on average, 26 times higher than operational emissions. On February 27, CDP and HSBC China hosted a closed-door seminar in Shanghai, bringing together large buyers to explore how to Accelerate Supply Chain Transformation through Financing. CDP Global CEO Sherry Madera gave opening remarks for this event. Experts from CDP, HSBC China and HP Inc shared insights on sustainable supply chain finance, highlighting practical strategies and opportunities to enhance transparency, mitigate risks, and drive supplier engagement. 9,551 companies representing nearly 13% of global electricity generation report on their electricity purchasing and location-based Scope 2 emissions through CDP. Last year, we released our 2024 snapshot of corporate renewable electricity sourcing trends, which showed that only 10% of these companies, representing 647 terawatt hours of annual electricity purchasing, set targets to consume 100% renewable energy by 2030. To build a greener world, Scope 2 emissions disclosure needs to become part of business strategy, because transparency drives action. In 2024, close to 1,000 local governments from over 80 countries disclosed their climate and resiliency actions, greenhouse gas emissions and mitigation targets through the CDP-ICLEI Track. However, cities still face major logistical and financial hurdles to implement their climate projects. This is why CDP and Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy (GCoM) work together to leverage data reported through the CDP-ICLEI Track to identify projects for the Gap Fund that are in need of technical assistance.
