#YouthCompetition Video Series🎬 Would you know what to do to stay safe if a flood struck?🌊 A survey carried out by YouthMappers showed that 33% of the interviewed students weren’t sure how to respond to a flood emergency.🆘 The Water from a Rock initiative is enhancing #flood preparedness in South Africa by distributing disaster awareness packages, mapping vulnerable areas, and conducting risk assessments. These actions will enable communities to implement effective #EarlyWarningSystems, evacuation plans, and protective measures. 📢 Follow the progress of Water from a Rock and stay tuned for some exciting news on the Youth Competition!📻 Learn more about the Associate Programme for Flood Management, joint initiative of the World Meteorological Organization - Global Water Partnership➡️ https://lnkd.in/gzwA4Se

🌐 The last time the Earth experienced a comparable concentration of CO₂ was 3-5 million years ago, when the temperature was 2-3°C warmer and sea level was 10-20 meters higher than now. 📈 The globally-averaged surface concentration of CO₂ reached 420.0 parts per million (ppm), which is 151% of pre-industrial (before 1750) levels. 📈 Methane rose to 1,934 parts per billion (ppb), equating to 265% of pre-industrial levels. 📈 Nitrous Oxide reached 336.9 parts per billion (ppb), or 125% of pre-industrial levels. 🌡️ As long as emissions continue, greenhouse gases will continue accumulating in the atmosphere leading to global temperature rise. 📢 Stay informed for effective #ClimateAction at #COP29—explore the World Meteorological Organization's full Greenhouse Gas Bulletin for more details: https://lnkd.in/ea9uyuHu

📈 Another year. Another record. 🌡️ Carbon dioxide (CO2) is accumulating in the atmosphere faster than any time experienced during human existence, rising by more than 10% in just two decades. 🚨 This should set alarm bells ringing among decision-makers. We are off track to meet the #ParisAgreement goal of limiting global warming to well below 2°C and aiming for 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. 📢 Stay informed for effective #ClimateAction at #COP29—explore the WMO's full Greenhouse Gas Bulletin for more details: https://lnkd.in/ea9uyuHu

It was the second warmest September on record (after September 2023), according to the monthly report from NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration. The year to date has been the warmest on record. NOAA's National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) provides one of the six international datasets used by World Meteorological Organization for the State of the Global Climate 2024 Update, which will be released for #COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijian. We are delighted that the #NCEI is in the process of restoring full operations after significant infrastructure damage to its headquarters in Asheville, North Carolina from #HurricaneHelene. We are grateful for all the dedicated work to enable the resumption of data feeds which are so vital for monitoring the #StateofClimate and informing #ClimateAction.
