Following the Ghana National Education Forum, our Exceutive Secretary, Albert Nsengiyumva, alongside Hendrina Chalwe Doroba from the African Development Bank Group engaged with the Vice President of Ghana, Her Excellency Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang. Her Excellency is an education sector patriot, having served previously as a Minister of Education in Ghana. Her passion for foundational learning and education reform remains unwavering. The meeting sought to explore areas of mutual collaboration between our institutions, and the people of Ghana. She underscored the urgent need to rethink education financing as major international donors scale back support. The African Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation Fund (AESTIF)—a joint initiative of the African Union Commission (AUC) and the African Development Bank Group—presents a game-changing opportunity in bridging funding gaps. Vice President Agyemang also shared her vision for an education system that meets both national and continental needs. During the meeting, ADEA extended an invitation to Her Excellency to become a Foundational Learning Champion in Africa, given her commitment to the education agenda. The #Ghana National Education Forum ended last Friday. It brought together policymakers, educators, development partners, and civil society organizations to discuss strategies for transforming Ghana’s education system for a sustainable future. The forum, themed "Transforming Education for a Sustainable Future," provided a platform to address critical challenges in infrastructure, education financing, quality assurance, and governance. It was an opportunity for the new government to get going on its education agenda. As always, ADEA was on hand to provide support and policy perspectives for one of its committed member countries. Supported by Hendrina Chalwe Doroba our host institution, the African Development Bank Group (AfDB), our Executive Secretary, Albert Nsengiyumva, engaged in high-level discussions on strengthening foundational learning, technical and vocational education (TVET), and evidence-based policymaking. ADEA also facilitated discussions on regional cooperation, advocating for the domestication of continental education frameworks into national education strategies and ensuring stronger partnerships between governments, development partners, and the private sector.

We joined stakeholders at the Nigeria Education Innovation Summit (NEDIS), organized by The Education Partnership (TEP) Centre with support from the Oando Foundation. Inyang Umoren, Project Manager on ADEA’s Tackling Education and Skills Data Challenge, delivered an insightful presentation on how Africa can build future-ready skills. She enjoined countries to build political commitment to educational reforms, strengthen government capacity to use data for decision-making, integrate the private sector in TVSD curriculum, leverage EdTech and AI to address gaps and improve access, prioritize teacher education, continuous professional development, and welfare. For us at ADEA, TVSD remains the shortcut to addressing unemployment at scale and addressing the skills deficit. #FutureReadySkills #EducationAndSkillsData #WorkplaceReadiness

The theme, "Inspire Inclusion," aligns with our commitment to ensuring that education systems across Africa empower every girl with the skills, knowledge, and opportunities needed to thrive. 🔹 How ADEA Advances Inclusion in Education: ✅ Strengthening foundational Learning: Ensuring every girl masters literacy and numeracy, breaking barriers to lifelong learning. ✅ Promoting gender-responsive education policies: working with governments to create policies that foster equal opportunities in education and skills development. ✅ Empowering Women in Leadership & TVSD: Advocating for increased participation of young women in STEM, TVET, and leadership roles in education. ✅ Leveraging Data for Gender Equity: Using education data insights to bridge gender gaps in learning outcomes and school participation. The 4th strategic initiative of our five-year strategic plan is dedicated to promoting access, equity, and inclusion—aspects that ensure gender balance but also consider the peculiar plight of women in access education, especially in challenging circumstances. 🌍 When we invest in inclusive education, we invest in Africa’s future! #LastWeekatADEA 📢 Strengthening Planning & Implementation for Impact at Scale! 🚀📚 Between Thursday 6th and Saturday 8th March, we held our annual strategic retreat in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, setting the stage for stronger collaboration, innovation, and impact in Africa’s education sector. The retreat was a key step towards successfully implementing our five-year Strategic Plan 2024-2028. We convened representatives from member countries, our partners from the Gates Foundation and Mastercard Foundation, ICQN coordinators, and secretariat staff as we reaffirmed our commitment to empowering African countries to reform their education systems and drive meaningful learning transformation. 🔹 Key Outcomes from the Retreat: ✅ A clearer strategic direction and priorities for 2025, ensuring effective implementation of the ADEA Strategic Plan. ✅ Defined concrete targets for 2025, with improved tracking of interventions to achieve long-term results. ✅ Strengthened teamwork within ADEA to enhance collaboration with member countries and partners. ✅ Benefitted from shared perspectives and goals, as we sought to better understand how best to deliver value to our member countries. ✅ Recommitment to our identity as a learning organization, representing the education ambitions of our member countries. This retreat has reinforced ADEA’s role in supporting African governments, aligning with continental education frameworks, and the push for AI and digital transformation in education. ✨ Together, we are shaping the future of education in Africa. La conférence de la CONFEMEN s'est achevée le 30 janvier, réunissant des ministres de l’éducation, des décideurs politiques et des acteurs clés pour aborder les défis majeurs de l’éducation primaire en Afrique francophone. À l’issue de la conférence, les participants ont adopté une résolution contenant des recommandations clés visant à améliorer les résultats d’apprentissage, à renforcer les systèmes éducatifs et à assurer une plus grande responsabilité dans la mise en œuvre des politiques. Dans le cadre de l’édition de février de la série Africa Learning Together (ALT), notre collègue Chinedu Anarado s'est entretenu avec Hilaire Hounkpodoté, coordinateur du PASEC, pour analyser les principales conclusions de la conférence. L’échange a porté sur le rôle des évaluations PASEC dans le suivi des progrès éducatifs, le soutien aux réformes politiques et l’orientation des pays vers des solutions fondées sur des données pour améliorer l’apprentissage fondamental. From the #Angolan National #Education Forum to the Department of Basic Education Lekgotla in South Africa, we championed stronger education-industry collaboration, data-driven decision-making, and foundational learning to equip Africa’s youth for the future. We also deepened partnerships in #Angola, #Kenya, #Rwanda, and #SouthAfrica, including a key meeting with Angola’s Vice President, H.E. Esperança da Costa.
