The Northern Pathfinder, a sea vessel transporting CO2 for storage in Norway, docked at Yara's Sluiskil plant in the Netherlands! 🎉 🤝 In 2023, Yara and Northern Lights JV signed the first-ever cross-border commercial agreement for Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) in operation. 🚢 Through CCS, Yara aims to reduce its annual CO2 emissions by 800,000 tons from the ammonia production at Yara Sluiskil. The CO2 will be liquefied and shipped by Northern Lights from the Netherlands to permanent storage on the Norwegian continental shelf, 2.6 kilometers under the seabed. 🏭 Although operations are planned to start in 2026, the Northern Pathfinder vessel made a stop at Yara's Sluiskil plant on its voyage from Asia to Norway! The vessel is one of four ships to safely transport CO2 from industrial installations to the Northern Lights terminal in Øygarden, Norway. Join us in celebrating the power of partnership in driving profitable decarbonization and strengthened competitiveness! This milestone proves that CCS is part of the solution in reaching climate targets while kickstarting the market for low-carbon products in Europe. 👏
