It has been some hectic and exciting days here in Davos where Yara Clean Ammonia (YCA) has engaged with key stakeholders promoting clean ammonia. I have emphasized on the importance of creating demand for low carbon (LC) products. Lack of demand for LC products is the main hurdle for developing good business cases and getting projects to reality. To create demand we need: - Clear incentives for LC products, or products with a very low carbon intensity (CI) - Measures to make high CI products less attractive - Mechanism that fully and significantly close the cost gap between near zero fuels and fossil fuel - Regulatory certainty & predictability - GHG emissions to be accounted for on well-to-wake basis + emissions to be certified - Clear & Uniform certification scheme to guarantee transparency and same level playing field #yaracleanammonia

  • This week, we’ve been at the World Economic Forum in Davos, where leaders from around the globe came together to tackle critical challenges in building a competitive, resilient, and sustainable future.   Key topics this year included the role of #AI in shaping industries, the urgent need for regulatory frameworks, and accelerating the #EnergyTransition. While AI has been a major focus, highlighting how technology can improve efficiency and reduce emissions, it’s clear that innovation must work hand-in-hand with policies to create real change.   #WEF25 reinforced that ambition without action isn’t enough. Here’s what we’ve brought to the table in Davos:   🚀 Creating demand for low-carbon solutions: Scaling up LC products requires clear demand to unlock business cases and make the green transition financially viable.   💡 Incentives and policies: Clear incentives for LC products, mechanisms to close the cost gap with fossil fuels, and predictable regulatory frameworks are essential to driving adoption.   🌍 Collaboration across sectors: Progress doesn’t happen in silos.Governments, businesses, and innovators must work together to provide the consistency and confidence needed to scale solutions and secure investment.   Beating climate change requires us all to play our part. We leave committed to advancing the solutions, policies, and partnerships needed to deliver on the green transition. #Decarbonization #HydrogenEconomy

  • Last week, the Ammonia Europe launch event brought together industry leaders to discuss the future of low-carbon and renewable hydrogen products. A key takeaway from the event was the urgent need to create demand for low-carbon and renewable #hydrogen products, a goal that the Clean Industrial Deal (#CID) could help achieve. Focusing on incentivizing end-use is crucial to driving demand for low-emission products. ⏰ 🌍 Vibeke Rasmussen of Yara Clean Ammonia highlighted, achieving this requires a balanced approach:   “From the Clean Industrial Deal we expect predictability on frameworks for funding and policies, but also not too stringent rules. The focus should be on carbon intensity and be technology-agnostic. We all, as customers, have the power to demand visibility for the carbon intensity of final products, such as food on the shelves, and can help create a market for clean hydrogen.” Industry representatives echoed the sentiment that demand is the number one driver needed to enable the hydrogen economy, supported by a mix of policy measures that balance incentives and regulation. A big thank you to the event organizers, moderators, panelists, and everyone involved for facilitating such an important discussion and continuing to drive the low-carbon future forward. 👏 Learn more about how Yara Clean Ammonia is helping to shape a low-carbon future 👉 https://lnkd.in/dfEk2GPd Photo credits: Ammonia Europe #hydrogeneconomy #decarbonization

DNV today released a recommended practice (RP) for the safe use of ammonia as ship fuel. Together with a competence standard (ST) for methanol published in October, they aim to enable crew and shipowners to tackle the safety risks and challenges posed by the introduction of new alternative fuels and technologies through shipping’s decarbonization. “To obtain a safe, timely, and impactful maritime transformation, we need to ensure safe operations by supporting both our seafarers and onshore personnel. Competence development is crucial for managing the transition safely and avoiding a safety gap that could put crew, assets, the environment, and our decarbonization efforts at risk,” said Knut Ørbeck-Nilssen, DNV Maritime CEO. The DNV-ST-0687 “Competence related to the use of methanol as fuel” and the DNV-RP-0699 “Competence related to the use of ammonia as fuel,” apply to shipboard crew on vessels using methanol or ammonia as fuel. They clearly outline the expected competencies for using these fuels onboard, enabling the assessment and verification of an individual's knowledge and skills to ensure they can operate and maintain systems and equipment safely. “Introducing methanol or ammonia as fuel onboard vessels will impact personnel ashore, the shipboard crew and the shipowner’s organization. It is critical that the crew can recognize risks and operate systems safely and the organization needs to accommodate for this through i.e. safety management system and other organizational means,” said Kirsten Birgitte Strømsnes, Business Development Leader in DNV Maritime Advisory. DNV collaborated with OSM Thome and Northern Marine Group when developing the ST and Amon Maritime, AZANE Fuel Solutions, Yara Clean Ammonia, Wärtsilä, Kongsberg Maritime and Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement/Ula Ship Management when developing the ammonia RP.
