The Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden - IFW Dresden - conducts modern materials science. The research work covers a wide range from the pure advancement of knowledge in the fields of physics and chemistry to the technological preparation of new materials and products. Research focuses on the physical and chemical properties of solids that are interesting and useful for new and sustainable functional materials. This includes materials that exhibit special physical or quantum mechanical phenomena, such as magnetism and superconductivity, or that promise unusual properties due to their nanoscale characteristics. In addition, the institute's mission is to train young scientists and engineers and to make the knowledge gained available to industry. The IFW Dresden employs more than 500 people from over 40 nations. Our research institute is a member of the Leibniz Association and a partner of the DRESDEN-concept.

🌟 Why we are founding SONOJET – High-Precision Aerosols for Industry Behind every innovation is a team driven by passion, purpose, and a vision for change. At SONOJET, we bring together decades of expertise in physics, aerosol technology, microsystems engineering, materials science, and electronics – united by one mission: To redefine how aerosols are being generated and used across industries. Our journey started at Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research (IFW) Dresden, where groundbreaking research in surface acoustic wave (SAW) technology laid the foundation for a new generation of compact, integrable aerosol sources. Since the first SAW-based aerosol generator prototype in 2016, we have been working to transform this technology into a scalable platform for industrial applications. 🔬 What drives us? 🔬 Latest research on hydrodynamic in vitro corrosion of biodegradable materials! 🧪 Check out our recent work, published in Corrosion Science: https://lnkd.in/dGAck3PJ What’s new? ✨ We developed an approach based on a blood flow-related parameter to electrochemically analyse a biodegradable steel under laminar flow conditions. Our work demonstrates that suitable hydrodynamic conditions can accelerate the initial degradation of the steel by up to 5 times, which is beneficial for the desired temporary vascular implant application. Why does that matter? 🌟 Our findings not only provide insight into the corrosion mechanisms of the degradable steel, they also highlight the significant differences between static and hydrodynamic conditions and underscore the role of flow-enhanced mass transport of reactive species. These are crucial insights for all vascular implants, degradable and permanent. The present approach paves the way for more realistic in vitro corrosion environments and is easily replicable as we used a commercially available setup. This may help unify hydrodynamic test protocols, which can be implemented into standards such as DIN ISO 10993-15 and ASTM3268-18a.
