My big day has arrived! After completing my Defensio with the topic "Designability and Versatility of Thermoplastic Forming for Bulk Metallic Glasses", I finally got awarded the Dr.mont. title at Montanuniversität Leoben. 👨🎓 ⚒️ First, I want to express my sincere gratitude to my supervisors, Prof. Jürgen Eckert and Dr. Florian Spieckermann. Their kind guidance, continuous support, and encouragement are key elements that motivate my Ph.D. career and research. Special thanks to my mentor, Prof. Christian Teichert, for his insights, immense knowledge, and willingness to assist. I could not have imagined having better supervisors and mentor in my Ph.D. I deeply appreciate BIOREMIA ETN for providing such a fantastic training network and an exciting research project. It's my pleasure to meet and work with all ESRs and PIs. I want to thank all the collaborators who have hosted and supported my secondments. Yesterday I successfully defended my thesis "Sustainable manufacturing of antimicrobial and antifouling polymers for protection of medical devices" and got awarded the PhD degree in biomedical and biomolecular sciences!🧑🏻🔬🎉 I would like to extend my gratitude to my examiners Ipsita Roy, Tanja Narancic and the chair of the committee Siobhán McClean. It was a pleasure to talk and discuss my project for over 3 hours with you and I learned a lot from you as well. Special thank you to my colleagues, supervisors and mentors from the institutes I worked with where Shona, Hamza Chouirfa, Sean McMahon, Thomas Dürig played a critical role in my development and especially Patrick Duffy that worked as a guide and exceptional mentor throughout my project with Ashland. My colleagues from University College Dublin where Shafik Oubihi, Elizabeth O., Gillian Carney greatly supported me with my microbiology projects and to stay motivated, especially my supervisor Tadhg Ó Cróinín who was a critical pillar in the completion of this project and thesis, thank you for never letting me give up. The Early Stage Researchers (ESRs) conducted individual projects focused on designing, synthesizing, characterizing, and testing biofilm-resistant materials and coatings for bone-related implant applications. 🔬 🔹 Launched as a four-year project under the Horizon 2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions funding line, BIOREMIA has been a resounding success. It provided excellent research conditions for the ESRs and contributed significantly to advancing this dynamic field. A total of 11 beneficiaries and 6 partner organizations from academia and industry contributed to BIOREMIA's success.
