The PREVENT Waste Alliance serves as an international think and do tank for circular economy practitioners. As a platform for knowledge exchange and international cooperation, it brings together organisations from the private sector, academia, civil society and public institutions. PREVENT's mission is to advance the circular economy in low- and middle-income countries by minimising waste, eliminating pollutants, and maximising the reuse of resources in the economy worldwide. The working groups of the PREVENT Waste Alliance currently focus on three material streams: plastics, electrical and electronic equipment and batteries, and organic waste. In addition, PREVENT members are working on a range of cross-cutting issues such as digitalisation, behaviour change and financing mechanisms for the circular economy. The goal is to connect different perspectives along global value chains, share knowledge, develop tools and positions, and pilot scalable solutions for the circular economy. The PREVENT Waste Alliance currently has more than 500 member organisations from over 50 countries. It was launched in 2019 by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

🌍 NEW Project Factsheet: Biomass Utilization by Insects for Green Solutions in Africa through Black Soldier Fly Technology! 🪰♻️ We’re excited to share our new fact sheet on the potential of BSF technology to transform organic waste into valuable resources. BSF larvae not only reduce organic waste by up to 80%, but they also convert it into protein-rich animal feed and nutrient-packed compost. This innovative approach supports sustainable waste management and helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Our latest project is promoting this technology across Ethiopia, Côte d’Ivoire, and Uganda implemented by the ACEN Foundation, Trinomics, Eclose GmbH, and Eawag, and is co-funded by the Climate & Clean Air Coalition and the PREVENT Waste Alliance. Key benefits of BSF Technology include: 🍎 Reduced organic waste by 50-80% 📈 Job creation and improved agriculture 🌾 Enhancing a circular economy of organic waste ⬇ Download the fact sheet through the link in the first comment below to learn more about our BUGS project! #CircularEconomy #WasteManagement #Sustainability #BSFTechnology #ClimateAction #PREVENTWasteAlliance #GreenSolutions #BSF #organicwaste

🚧 Could Extended Producer Responsibility serve as a catalyst for sustainable construction? Find out in this GAP for EPR webinar on October 15, 1PM! 🌍 The EU’s construction industry consumes nearly 50% of all extracted materials and generates almost 40% of the EU’s waste. Although nearly 95% of building materials are recyclable, less than 5% of their actual resource value is currently being preserved. In the webinar "Exploring Extended Producer Responsibility for the Construction Sector", the Global Action Partnership for EPR will strive to discuss the aforementioned question by delving into the critical aspects of EPR and its implication for the construction industry. Have a look at the agenda: 🟢 Setting the Scene – Andrew Brown, OECD - OCDE 🟢 The Discussion Paper “Extended Producer Responsibility in the construction sector. Exploring the potential.” – Lisa Graaf, BPIE - Buildings Performance Institute Europe 🟢 Panel Discussion: ✨ Mona Mohammed, M. Sc., EIT (Programme Management Officer, UN Environment Programme and Global Alliance of Buildings and Construction) ✨ Jérôme d’Assigny (VALOBAT) ✨ Jonna Byskata (Head of EU Public Affairs, Kingspan Group) ✨Dr Dirk Schwede (Professor for Energy and Building Services at the Technical University of Applied Science in Lübeck, Germany) 🟢 Q&A Intrigued? 🔗 Find the link to the webinar and a calendar entry in the replies below!

🌍 Today is international #EwasteDay! 🗑️🔌 62 billion kg of e-waste were generated globally in 2022, according to the UN's global E-Waste Monitor, and this number is expected to rise to 82 billion kg by 2030. Only a fraction is properly recycled, with the amount of e-waste growing five times faster than its collection rates. Without action, e-waste poses a significant risk to our environment and health as toxic substances from discarded electronics pollute soil, water, and air. By improving e-waste management, we can: 🔋 Recover valuable materials like metals and plastics ♻️ Reduce the environmental impact of extraction and production 🌱 Protect ecosystems and public health 💡 Raise awareness on responsible consumption and disposal Circular economy practices are vital: they ensure that valuable components are reintegrated into the production cycle, fostering a more sustainable and resource-efficient future. 🤝 Various PREVENT members facilitate impactful e-waste projects. Find a small selection in our slide deck: PLASTSAVE, AppCyclers, Vertmonde - Recycling of electronic waste in Ecuador and SetTIC! Let’s work towards a future where no #electronicwaste is left behind. 💪🌿 How are you joining the e-waste hunt? #internationalewasteday #ewaste #sustainabilitymatters
