A partnership between JEC Group and The European Composites Industry Association; EuCIA , this year's report presents the latest global initiatives aimed at advancing sustainable design, lifetime extension, and recycling technologies in the composites industry. TECH-FAB Europe contributed an article about its new initiative to develop life cycle assessments #LCA of key technical textiles product families. [ PRESS RELEASE ] TECH-FAB Europe is joining 8 other industry associations to release the findings of a study investigating the environmental impacts of processing #glassfibre reinforced #composites waste through #cement #coprocessing. Cefic UP/VE Sector Group, CEMBUREAU , Epoxy Europe, The European Composites Industry Association; EuCIA , European Alliance SMC • BMC, European Boating Industry, Glass Fibre Europe, TECH-FAB Europe and WindEurope commissioned SGS to prepare a life cycle assessment #LCA report exploring the environmental impacts of treating end-of-life composites by co-processing in a cement facility. ✅ This independent, peer-reviewed LCA report confirms the positive environmental impact of this EoL solution for glass fibre reinforced thermoset composites, which are used in #automotive, #construction, #wind energy, recreational #boating and other applications. ✅ The report reveals that each ton of EoL composite waste treated in a cement facility saves up to 1 ton of CO2 compared to traditional waste incineration methods. ♻ With the publication of this report, we call on decision-makers to recognise cement co-processing as #recycling process for its mineral fraction. This would be highly beneficial, accelerating the adoption of this existing solution to process EoL composites and fostering the development of a sustainable waste collection system for EoL composites. [PRESS RELEASE] TECH-FAB Europe has established a new Working Group to focus on #technical #polyester #textiles. 🔹 Through the new group European manufacturers of technical polyester fabrics used in industrial applications will work together to promote a sustainable future for the sector. Joining forces, group members will develop long-term strategies to address #sustainability issues and support #innovation projects that contribute to the European Green Deal’s objectives. 🔹 Technical polyester textiles include woven, knitted and laid polyester fabrics used as end-products or substrate or reinforcement for other products. They are used in applications such as sail cloths, single ply roofing, pool liners, adhesive tape ... and more. Lieven Keymeulen, EMEA-APAC Market Director for Engineered Performance Products, Milliken & Company, has been elected as chairman of the new group. 📢 TECH-FAB Europe launches #LCA project. TECH-FAB Europe is launching a new initiative to develop federation-level life cycle assessments (LCAs) of key technical textiles product families. The analyses will be performed by PwC using a cradle-to-gate approach, taking into account the impacts of raw material extraction, transportation and processing, including product production, to the point of delivery to customers. From wind #energy, #construction, and #automotive, to #sports & leisure, and more, solutions based on #technicaltextiles are enabling numerous industries to achieve the objectives of the European #GreenDeal. An LCA for key product families will provide additional information to demonstrate the #sustainability of the technical textiles industry to all stakeholders. The LCA project was launched with TECH-FAB Europe’s #Composites Working Group at a kick-off meeting on 28th May. This has been followed by meeting with the Open Mesh Fabric Working Group today. During the data collection process and future dissemination of information, we will fully comply with European competition law. We plan to share the results of the project by the end of this year. ℹ Federation-level LCAs can be used to inform the development of policies and regulations. These can also contribute to the establishment of industry-wide sustainability #standards. The federation and the companies are provided with EU-wide averages for each product category. All participating members of the federation also obtain their individual results. Comparing the life cycle impacts of different sites within the federation average enables benchmarking.
