A memorandum of understanding had been signed between Hydnum Steel and Knauf Interfer. This agreement has been made in response to the sudden growth in demand around industrial solutions which are sustainable and have a low-environmental-impact. The article below talks about a new agreement which has been set up between two innovative companies, with the intention of improving the steel industry. Through completing this project, the companies will help the environment, the steel industry, all the parties involved and will also highlight their commitment to the environment. Whether in electric cars, transformers or wind farms: the energy and mobility transition and many other future technologies are based on steel. However, the production of CO2-free steel in direct reduction plants, powered by hydrogen and green electricity, requires an active industrial policy that offers companies an energy supply at competitive prices, promotes investment and creates markets for sustainable products. This is the only way to ensure that the European steel industry, and thus the starting point for industrial value creation, is preserved in the long term. We support the #StrongerWithEUSteel initiative of The European Steel Association (EUROFER) and, together with the other manufacturers in the EU, are committed to a strong and resilient Europe with steel! GEA is helping decarbonize the steel industry – supplying dedusting technology for 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱’𝘀 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻-𝗻𝗲𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁. 𝗛𝟮 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗹 is the most promising method to decarbonize the global steel production that is currently responsible for more than 3 billion tons of carbon dioxide a year. Here, green hydrogen replaces coal in the steel production process. We will be delivering and supervising all crucial installation aspects of several vertical Wet Electrostatic Precipitators for secondary dedusting and ultra-fine cleaning of exhaust air for the world’s first carbon-neutral steel plant, currently under construction in northern Sweden. GEA’s expertise in emission control tailor-made solutions make us the perfect partner in this groundbreaking project that will bring Europe one step closer to climate-neutral steel. • Our capabilities do not end here, reach out and find out more about our solutions for sustainable steel production: https://go.gea/3ee #decarbonization #h2 #hydrogen #steel #emissioncontrol

How can Europe strengthen its competitiveness and electrify industry? With Cefic and EUROPEAN ALUMINIUM, we co-organised an #AntwerpDialogue to find a common view with energy intensives. Here are our recommendations 👉 https://lnkd.in/ezRfqqi2 More than ten associations found consensus around six key actions to alleviate pressure on Europe’s industrial base while maintaining the business case for decarbonised electrification: 1️⃣ Facilitate access to power purchase agreements (#PPAs) and long-term contracting for industrial consumers 2️⃣ Boost financing of low-carbon technologies 3️⃣ Level out electricity taxes and levies 4️⃣ Develop flexibility 5️⃣ Address infrastructure bottlenecks 6️⃣ Create high quality jobs We call on the European Commission to consider these joint recommendations in the upcoming Clean Industrial Deal. Here's Kristian Ruby's take 👇 Read more about the Antwerp Dialogue here 👉 https://lnkd.in/eh9sfmud CEMBUREAU | Cepi | Cerame-Unie | The European Steel Association (EUROFER) | Eurometaux (European Metals Association) | IFIEC Europe | smartEn Smart Energy Europe | SolarPower Europe | WindEurope

Hydrogen-based direct reduction (H-DRI) technology is quickly gathering pace in Europe, with multiple announcements of new plants. Other steel producers, particularly outside Europe, are considering retrofitting their integrated steel mills with carbon capture and storage (CCS) to enable use of existing equipment. However, not all new steel-making technologies will deliver deep emissions cuts, and while the effective carbon price paid by steel producers remains relatively low, all of these technologies will come at an additional cost. ERM research for the IEAGHG R&D Programme profiling the lifecycle costs and emissions of emerging lower carbon steel technology pathways within the EU reveals these three trends. Excellent piece of research by ERM for the IEAGHG R&D Programme profiling the lifecycle costs and emissions of emerging lower carbon steel technology pathways. Research includes some actions for financial sector as well. Financial institutions can help de-risk first movers and bring production costs down the cost curve. Getting access to capital will be vital for the steel sector to be able to transition towards clean steel. In turn, this will help financial institutions to meet climate-aligned decarbonization targets for their portfolios.
