It's not rocket science. It is much more complex: it's aeronautical science! 👨🔬 ✈️ There is perhaps no engineering as complex as that required to design a new aircraft. How complex? We are talking round about 100.000-parametres-and-up-to-100 tools-and-many-experts -complex. 💫 ☝ And complex problems require - of course - simplification! Designing or optimising a new (future) aircraft, or even "just" integrating certain new technologies, such as hydrogen propulsion, into an existing aircraft design, requires many experts from a wide range of disciplines and their tools. It is a very time-consuming and error-prone process, as it is defined by sheer endless (inter-)dependencies. As experts of system architectures, EXACT-project leader and part of the DLR with 54 specialist institutes, we know what we are talking about. 🤓 Setting up this design process in an efficient and effective way can already be a big hurdle. ❓ Which tool can or should be connected to which - and in what order? One would need to be an expert not only in his or her own discipline but also in aircraft design as a whole... Will there be any design loops, and if so - where? Is the process executable? And how can the process be sped up? 👉 Well, here’s the answer to all of the above questions: MDAx, “MDO (Multidisciplinary Design and Optimisation) Workflow Design Accelerator”, was developed and used by the researchers of our institute since 2019. This software can speed up the process of solving complex problems by setting up a workflow automatically.💨 If all the experts for this future design process simply enter their inputs (what information/numbers do I need for my tool to work) and outputs (what numbers/values can I or my respective tools deliver) in a standardised way, the software will create the most efficient workflow possible. Unlike other software of this type, it has a very user-friendly interface (even for non-IT experts), is self-explanatory and is probably the only one that gives instant feedback on whether a workflow can be executed or if some information or connections are missing. And here's another benefit: the workflow can be easily exported to other softwares that can execute the workflow. Long story short - why don't you see for yourself and register here to get access to the free trial version of MDAx, MDAx light: https://lnkd.in/eh5_mDWT If you know you would like to use the full version, just team up with us and let's quickly simplify your complex design problem together! Just comment below and we will be in touch - or approach us at #DLRK2024 here in Hamburg or at the #EASN Conference in Thessaloniki! #MDO #sustainableaviation #ArchitectingAviation #dlr

Info
We are the Institute of System Architectures in Aeronautics, part of the German Aerospace Center (DLR). Aviation urgently needs to become climate neutral and cost efficient at the same time. How can technological building blocks, aircraft configurations and operating concepts be combined in order to meet these goals in the best possible way? How can integrated cabin concepts, passenger comfort, circular material use and efficient industrialisation be reconciled? Finding answers to pressing and complex questions like these is at the heart of our research: we explore the architecture of the overall aviation system with all its parameters and interdependencies. Our approach to answering these cross-disciplinary questions is based on the increasing availability of data and digital models (digital thread). This allows us to model aeronautics holistically as a system-of-systems. Differently put, we focus on digital development processes so we can best join our research efforts in this field both internally and externally: we collaborate with the other 54 DLR institutes and partners from research and industry. Only together we can examine every possible research aspect in its necessary depth. Here on LinkedIn we would like to share with you the different topics we cover and our latest findings but also our passion for science and technology. Subscribe to our channel and let’s get connected! -- Would you like to join our team? Great!

🗺🛫 🏗 It literally takes (it) all to lift aviation up into a new era: Especially if we want to do so in time to reach our set climate goals. This is why we value get-togethers of all those who want to make this transformation happen. 🤝 💡 When Harry Guggenheim and Theodore von Kármán founded the only global aeronautical association, The International Council of the Aeronautical Sciences (ICAS), they did so to stimulate the international exchange among aeronautical scientists. As usual, we attended also this year’s bi-annual ICAS-conference together with many partners from research, academia, small- and medium-sized companies as well as start-ups. The need to join forces not only globally but also across sectors showed in the programme: for the first time there was a special track dedicated to industrial research. ❗ And that is exactly what we need: a two-way street between research and industry. 🛣= 👩🔬+ 🏭 🚀And the other means of catalysing change in the complex field of aeronautics? Digital methods. That is why we held the second workshop of the ICAS Digital Pioneering Initiative (our director wrote about this earlier: https://lnkd.in/ezaDcaj7). While both, international and cross-sector collaboration and digital methods played a crucial role at this year's ICAS, they continue to do so for us. We will take this spirit with us to the upcoming #DLRK2024. We will have our own sessions dedicated to: ▪ Digital Pioneering: 20 years of CPACS ▪ The digital design of future aircraft concepts that are not only climate-friendly but also economically viable and thus of interest for the industry: EXACT ▪ Dedicated to actively shaping the future of aviation with our students DLR Design Challenge And of course we will be there with many more presentations and many pairs of open eyes and ears… 🥂Here's to a fruitful late summer/autumn conference marathon and to strengthening our ties with all the relevant players in this field. Let's make it work together. 🤝 👋 And see you at the DLRK in“our” city Hamburg, at the EASN - European Aeronautics Science Network Conference in Thessaloniki or at the #IFAR Summit in Singapore. #sustainableaviation #ICAS2024 #DLR #DLRK2024 #research
