The new El Cosmico officially breaks ground in Texas! 🏜️ The nomadic campground hotel in Marfa by the ever-brilliant Liz Lambert will be expanded and reimagined as the world's first 3D-printed hotel and development by ICON. The 60+ acre community will feature new guest units, hospitality spaces, and Sunday Homes, which are now available for sale. "Our design for the new El Cosmico is a conversation between El Cosmico’s past and the future. By testing the geometric boundaries of ICON’s 3D-printed construction, we have imagined fluid, curvilinear structures that enjoy the freedom of form in the empty desert. By using the sand, soils, and colors of the terroir as our print medium, the circular forms seem to emerge from the very land on which they stand. We are honored to join Liz Lambert in reimagining desert luxury as something distilled to its purest form: raw, honest, and in harmony with the surrounding environment." - Bjarke Ingels, Founder & Creative Director, BIG 🎥 ICON #ElCosmico #Campground #Hotel #3DPrinting #BIGArchitecture

Om os
BIG is a Copenhagen, New York, London, Barcelona, Shenzhen, Los Angeles, Oslo, and Zurich-based group of architects, designers, engineers, builders, and thinkers operating within the fields of architecture, urbanism, interior design, landscape design, product design, research and development. The office is currently involved in a large number of projects throughout Europe, North America, Asia and the Middle East. BIG’s architecture emerges out of a careful analysis of how contemporary life constantly evolves and changes. Not least due to the influence from multicultural exchange, global economical flows and communication technologies that all together require new ways of architectural and urban organization. We believe that in order to deal with today’s challenges, architecture can profitably move into a field that has been largely unexplored. A pragmatic utopian architecture that steers clear of the petrifying pragmatism of boring boxes and the naïve utopian ideas of digital formalism. Like a form of programmatic alchemy we create architecture by mixing conventional ingredients such as living, leisure, working, parking and shopping. By hitting the fertile overlap between pragmatic and utopia, we architects once again find the freedom to change the surface of our planet, to better fit contemporary life forms. BIG is committed to supporting its new parents and their families, and is a proud member of Pledge Parental Leave. While on leave, BIGsters will continue to receive all employee benefits previously provided including health insurance and will remain eligible for salary increases and bonuses, as well as 52 weeks of job security. We offer 18 weeks of total paid leave in addition to accrued vacation to extend the paid leave for primary caregivers, and 4 weeks paid leave for secondary caregivers.

Happy National Skyscraper Day! To celebrate the day, we're spotlighting the lush terraces of The Spiral 🌺 🏙️ Located on Manhattan's west side, The Spiral extends the neighboring High Line and Bella Abzug Park's green space up and around its exterior in a spiraling motion towards the sky. With approximately 13,000 sq ft of outdoor space, a landscape of The Spiral’s size has never been installed above 300 ft elevation in New York City. As flora including Clematis vines grow along the tower's west facade, and native Yarrow and Asters bloom successively throughout the year, The Spiral will soon become a true green addition to the New York City skyline. 📸 Laurian Ghinitoiu; Eric Petschek; Kate Cella Tishman Speyer #TheSpiral #Skyscraper #Supertall #Manhattan #NewYork #Landscape #Terraces

The new Suzhou Museum of Contemporary Art has topped out in Suzhou, China! Designed in collaboration with ARTS Group and Front Inc, the new 60,000 m2 museum is part of the city's development of the Jinji Lake and reimagines the traditional garden 'lang,' 廊 - a line that traces a path - framing gardens with outdoor art installations and coalescing as pavilions. The museum’s main design element is the roof ribbon, extending into a pattern of eaves that double as sheltered walkways. Knots in these walkways frame pavilions, entwining the architecture with the landscape, tying water to land, city to nature, and people to history. The landscaping creates a public space in front of Jinji Lake through interconnected gardens, ensuring a rich public realm. Sculptures by contemporary artists will provide Suzhou’s citizens with a cultural experience outside the museum’s opening hours. "The Suzhou Museum of Contemporary Art is a tribute to the rich garden heritage of Suzhou. We envision the '廊,' a traditional element of Suzhou gardens, gracefully winding through the landscapes and transforming into pavilions. In doing so, it frames the contemporary gardens, making them an integral part of the exhibition, as significant as the artwork within." - Catherine Huang, Partner in Charge, BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group #ShanghaiShuishiLandscapeDesign rdilighting 📸 Justin Szeremeta, ATCHAIN, BIG, Plomp #contemporaryart #museum #suzhou #architecture #jinjilake

Residents of @via57west can enjoy the sunny outdoors in its courtyard with views of New York! 😎🗽 The 830,000 sq ft high-rise combines the density of the Manhattan skyscraper with the communal space of its European-style courtyard, a lush 22,000 sq ft garden at the heart of the building. The garden gives the same gift to VIA's residents that Central Park gives to New York - an oasis in the heart of the city. By keeping three corners of the 'courtscraper' low and lifting the north-east corner up to its 450 ft peak, the courtyard opens up with views towards the Hudson River, bringing low western sun deep into the block and graciously preserving the adjacent Helena Tower’s views of the river. 📸 Iwan Baan; Alex Fradkin; Ivane Katamashvili #BIGArchitecture #Courtscraper #Summer #Sun #Outdoors #Manhattan #NewYorkCity
