Unpacking Pay Equity in Fashion: Italy In this section of the report, we explore the unique characteristics of the Italian Fashion Manufacturing Industry, from its €100 billion revenue in 2023 to the vital role women play in the workforce. We highlight the industry's pay equity challenges, where women represent 60% of the workforce but earn 19% less than men, and discuss how microenterprises dominate the sector, leaving most businesses exempt from upcoming EU pay transparency regulations. GFA recognises that pay equity affects everyone, regardless of binary or non-binary identities. However, current data primarily focuses on gender-specific indicators.
