Thank you to Carolina Wistén and Mattias Wesslau from Nordion Energi for hosting us at Gasmarknadsrådet in Malmö. Niklas Ahlefeldt-Laurvig, CCO, and Tobias Bo Jensen, Head of Business Development, presented Green2x's plans to develop large-scale biofuel plants - highlighting the current progress for the first site located at the Port of Vordingborg, Denmark, where the biogenic CO2 will be used in synergy with Arcadia eFuels' production - and the announcement of our second site in collaboration with CMP located in Malmö, Sweden. At the session, participants from all sectors of the gas ecosystem were present, including offtakers, balancing administrators, authorities, grid operators, and biogas producers. This cross-industry collaboration is, in our view, essential to driving the green transition forward. "Close dialogue and collaboration with all relevant stakeholders are prerequisites for succeeding with huge projects like those we are developing at Green2x. I am very pleased that Carolina invited us to present our current plans and to hear the thoughts of key actors in the Swedish gas market," says Niklas Ahlefeldt-Laurvig. Green2x utilizes biomass residuals, such as leftover straw sourced from farmers, converting them into biofuels like biomethane and biomethanol, along with biogenic CO2 for the PtX sector. A big thank you to the Biogas Solutions Research Center for hosting us in Linköping during their workshop on "Biomass Residues to Bioenergy" Green2x's CCO, Niklas Ahlefeldt-Laurvig, and Head of Business Development, Tobias Bo Jensen, were invited to share Green2x's perspectives on using large quantities of straw for bioenergy and our insights on building up the supply chain. Here are some key takeaways from the session: ☘ Green2x’s efficient process and the high energy density of straw enable very large-scale production. Green2x’ first plant in Vordingborg Port will become the world's largest biogas plant at full-scale capacity ☘ There are abundant straw resources in Europe and the Baltic Sea area, much of which is currently not being utilized. ☘ It is possible to retrieve sufficient straw without compromising soil organic carbon levels and soil fertility. ☘ Green2x works closely with the agricultural industry and is interested in long-term, stable contracts with fair prices for all parties. ☘ We plan to ramp up straw usage over time to ensure the smooth implementation of large volumes. "We are very happy to engage with cutting-edge researchers in the field of biogas solutions and to hear their input on our plans for developing large-scale biofuel plants in Denmark and Sweden using only straw as feedstock. Thank you to Thomas Prade, Anna Eronn, and the rest of the BSRC for inviting us and for the interesting discussions," says Niklas Ahlefeldt-Laurvig. Green2x is on a mission to decarbonize the gas industry with new scalable technology that can transform agricultural leftovers, such as straw or other cellulose-based feedstocks, into green biofuels like methane and CO2, or upgrade them to methanol. Green2x is currently preparing for its first site at Port of Vordingborg, where Arcadia eFuels is also present, followed by a second site recently announced at Malmö Port in collaboration with Copenhagen Malmö Port. Summer is here, and it's time to bring in the straw! 🌞 Here's a snapshot of Green2x's CEO, Mikkel Sjølin Kiil, and Business Development Lead, Tobias Bo Jensen’s trip to the fields with our partners. It’s important for us to stay close to our value chain and build strong partnerships to enable our mission as well as the green transition together! Straw is an essential input for us, as our technology can turn agricultural residues like straw into low-carbon biofuels such as biomethane and biomethanol, as well as biogenic CO2 for the Power-to-X (PtX) industry.
I strongly believe that understanding your full value chain and engaging with stakeholders along the way is critical for success. From my experience, most time is spend on own organization and internal processes but value chain steps outside own organization are often as critical for success. You need happy employees AND strong partnerships to succeed. That's an important part of our strategy in Green2x. Sometime this requires hard work. Sometimes it feels more like summer vacation😊 Yesterday was an example of the latter: In the field baling straw with extremely competent farmers on a perfect summer day. It doesn’t get much better than this! Thank you Tobias Bo Jensen for facilitating!
