  • This month our Kaunas office took center stage with the grand opening of a newly renovated office that doubles the size of our office in Kaunas. Designed to foster teamwork, collaboration, and innovation, the new space includes a learning area, collaboration rooms, and various workspaces that encourage the sharing of ideas and skills, besides the nice view of the Neris River. Rasa Gude, Director of the Shared Service Centre in Kaunas, says: "New ideas are born where people meet, where opposing views and different competencies collide. The best ideas are born from collaboration – employees learn from colleagues, grow together, and teamwork leads to great results." NKT colleagues gathered for the inauguration, which featured speeches, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and a day filled with engaging activities like escape rooms, construction tasks, and cross-functional collaboration games. The new office layout enhances communication, teamwork, and creativity across all departments. It includes creative spaces with sofas and high tables, a traditional boardroom, office areas, and an auditorium-style learning area. Rasa Gude emphasises: "Creating space for increased collaboration is essential because it drives innovation and enhances productivity. When employees from different backgrounds and expertise come together, they can share diverse perspectives and ideas, leading to more creative solutions." The new office is a place where local and international teams can come together, exchange experiences, and achieve common goals. We expand offices where meaningful for functions that support the growth of NKT. Our Kaunas office is growing rapidly, now housing 155 colleagues in primarily Finance, IT, and Procurement, with more to join soon. #NKT #Officeopening

  • Australia welcomes NKT's new training hub. Given the critical role cable joints and terminations play in the electrical network, ensuring that each installation is done correctly and lasts for the design life cycle is essential. By offering ongoing support and up-to-date training, NKT helps professionals maintain their expertise and contribute to the overall dependability of the electricity network. In Australia, we have just opened our state-of-the-art training centre, offering specialized training on high voltage cable accessories. “Network reliability and safety are paramount, especially when dealing with high voltage installations. This requires a comprehensive approach to product selection and supplementary product training for the installers. We are excited that we can now offer a dedicated facility in Australia designed to provide hands-on courses led by experienced professional trainers,” says Denis Schuler, EVP and Head of Accessories at NKT. NKT Australia Training Centre is set to become a hub for industry-leading expertise and ongoing support. It covers all aspects of NKT accessory installation for XLPE cables up to 245 kV. “NKT places a strong emphasis on both quality training and professional development within the cable jointing industry. By ensuring that training is tailored we foster an environment where candidates can not only meet industry standards but also stay current and up to date with evolving practices and regulations,” says Glenn Courts, Managing Director at NKT Australia. • The safety of energy supply is on top of the agenda these days. How do we ensure that power supply is not disrupted? Cable monitoring is part of the answer. That is why we are launching our new cable monitoring platform designed to ensure the continuous operation of on- and offshore power cables. This solution proactively identifies and mitigates potential threats, including damage from fishing gear and deliberate damage. Our platform integrates multiple sensors and technologies to provide a comprehensive overview of power cable conditions, enhancing the reliability of power cable grids. By combining data from vessel location, acoustic sensing, depth of burial, and conductor temperature, we can identify suspicious activities and trigger alerts to help prevent cable damage. Stefan Persson, Director of Cable Monitoring Solutions, Service & Installation at NKT, says, “Our new cable monitoring platform represents a significant advancement in ensuring the reliability and safety of power cables. By integrating multiple sensors into a single platform, we can provide situational awareness and proactive monitoring, which is crucial for maintaining up-time and preventing damage.” Learn more about how our solution can safeguard power cables and improve grid resilience by reading the full press release: NKT launches new monitoring solution to safeguard cables: https://brnw.ch/21wRmZ9 #Cablemonitoring #NKT

  • #Powercables are vital to the energy transition and future electrification. At the ZVEI Conference in Cologne, we discussed regulatory requirements, strategic approaches, technological innovations, and new business models. Rapidly expanding and interconnecting global #power grids is essential for achieving #climate neutrality. At the conference, we shared insights from operating the test system for SuperLink - the world’s longest superconducting power cable system, discussed how cable manufacturers can benefit from harmonized offers, and debated how to shape the grid of the future.

What a milestone! After almost four and a half years since the contract signing, we have now completed the site acceptance test for the Attica-Crete power cable project in Greece – one of the final milestones. Our cable system consisting of 500 kV #HVDC MI and MVDC onshore #powercables is now fully installed, ready to play a key role in this ambitious project. The 1000 MW Attica-Crete interconnector is essential for decarbonising Crete by eliminating carbon emissions related to electricity generation in its first full year of operation. This is due to the replacement of production by the old oil-fired power units operating on the island. #powercables Ariadne Interconnection IPTO-Independent Power Transmission Operator

From vision to reality: Taiwanese factory arises March 2023 marked the beginning of our joint venture Walsin Energy Cable System (WECS) with Walsin to build Taiwan’s first subsea cable factory and become a cornerstone in Taiwan’s green energy transition. Significant progress is being made in the construction, with expert personnel from NKT providing technical support in close collaboration with the WECS team to get the factory up and running efficiently. “The factory is being built with the extensive knowledge and experience from our two factories in Karlskrona and Cologne in mind. We have transitioned from the planning phase and are now deeply engaged in the construction and machine installation process. All essential equipment is either in manufacturing, in transit, or already in Taiwan for assembly and installation,” says Jonas Alfson, Director of Special Projects at NKT. For the rest of the year, we have several critical activities lined up. The outer shell of the factory will soon be completed, and then the focus will be on installing and commissioning key machines. “Even though I have been involved in factory construction before, each project is a unique experience. It is incredibly rewarding to be an active part of a factory's journey from a concept on paper to a tangible reality, with real people producing real cables for major projects benefiting society. Seeing the physical manifestation of our plans and efforts is truly exciting. Working with our Taiwanese partners is definitely a highlight. We have a strong and very positive collaboration,” says Jonas Alfson. The factory is located in Kaohsiung in the south of Taiwan and is expected to be completed in 2025 and fully operational by 2027.
