The power grid in almost any major city in the world contains legacy cables, meaning mostly gas- and oil-filled ones that are no longer being produced, some more than 50 years old. Maintaining these oil and gas-insulated cables is vital for society and requires specialized skills that many younger technicians lack. NKT's Oil and Gas Cable Competence Center (OGCCC) was established to safeguard and transfer this unique expertise for decades to come, bridging generations of technology and ensuring legacy cables can continue to be used. With the recent keel-laying and coining ceremony, we are one step closer to introducing the NKT Eleonora to our fleet. This next-generation cable-laying vessel is a key asset in executing our existing order backlog and supporting our customers in building the energy infrastructure for a sustainable future. To support growing demand for medium-voltage power cables in Europe, NKT’s sites in Velke Meziříčí, Czech Republic and Falun, Sweden, have finalized their respective investment plans, on schedule and on budget. The new production lines are now operational, enhancing both capacity and capabilities to increase output. - We are excited to conclude the expansion of production capacity at our sites in Velke Meziříčí and Falun. The projects have run according to schedule and budget, and did not disrupt existing production during the process. With a strong orderbook, the sites are well positioned to support Europe’s need to upgrade its aging electricity grid and connect more renewable power projects. NKT is looking forward to delivering a reliable, low-emission power solution for the Yggdrasil area in the North Sea. We’re connecting two platforms at Yggdrasil with power from shore, ensuring a stable and secure energy supply for the entire area. During 2024, we completed the nearshore cable burial for TenneT's BorWin5 grid connection in the German part of the North Sea with a new tool. Our skilled crew successfully trenched the cable to a depth of 3 meters using a trenching setup developed in-house. With a raised excavator, we managed the challenging tides in the intertidal area and the seabed mobility at the project site. Operations were performed between -3.5 m LAT and 2 m LAT in good collaboration with all parties involved. #powercables #offshore #BorWin5

An update from NKT's Graduate Program. In September 2024, we welcomed 15 talented graduates from Sweden, the Netherlands, the UK, Germany, the Czech Republic, Denmark, and Poland to NKT.
