Prof. Oramah called for an “urgent reversal” through ambitious investments and local control. ➡️Prof. Oramah highlighted Afreximbank’s commitment, sharing that it has “disbursed over $34 billion to Africa’s energy sector,” and outlined two key steps to break free from outdated, colonial structures: 1️⃣ 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 2️⃣ 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐟𝐮𝐞𝐥𝐬 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐭𝐡: To tackle the continent’s $240 billion energy investment gap, Afreximbank, with APPO, has founded the 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚 𝐄𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐤 (AEB) – with an initial $5 billion in authorized capital. Set to open in early 2025, AEB will back Africa’s transition to sustainable, self-sufficient energy. Afreximbank also envisions the Gulf of Guinea as a refining powerhouse, exporting refined products to global markets, with the Pan-African Payment and Settlement System (PAPSS) allowing African nations to transact in local currencies, reducing forex pressures and stabilizing economies. Prof. Oramah closed with a powerful call: *”It’s high time we reversed the curse of inaction. The challenge of our era is to leverage Africa’s vast resources to secure energy and prosperity for future generations.”* Afreximbank stands ready to partner in unlocking Africa’s energy future, driving economic resilience and energy independence. #Afreximbank #AEW2024
