As we ride to COP29 Azerbaijan, showcasing solutions and empowering communities to take action, I'm reminded of our Ride to COP27 - UN Climate Change Conference when we visited the awe-inspiring Zafarana Wind Station in Egypt. Witnessing those massive turbines generate clean energy filled me with optimism. It's this kind of innovation that fuels our passion! During our ride to COP29 Azerbaijan, we visited over 25 cities, which made us think about how urban development is crucial for sustainable living, the recent guide from UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme) offers essential insights into designing safer streets that prioritize people. Here are some key takeaways:   1. Prioritize People Over Cars: Streets should focus on pedestrians, cyclists, and public transport users. 2. Not Just for Cars: Streets must accommodate diverse forms of transport, not just cars. 3. Designing for All: Accessibility for everyone, regardless of age or ability, fosters social inclusion and creates more connected communities. Streets should be welcoming spaces for all users! 4. Safety First: Implementing safe street designs, like reducing traffic speeds and enhancing pedestrian safety can save lives and protect everyone who uses the streets. Safety should always be a priority! 5. Think Green: Integrating trees and green spaces into street designs can lower temperatures by up to 8°C, improve air quality, and positively impact public health. A greener city is a healthier city!   These guidelines from UN-Habitat emphasize the importance of creating inclusive, sustainable, and safe urban environments that benefit all residents and users.   #UrbanDevelopment #SustainableLiving #TheRideToCOP29 #UNHabitat #InclusiveCities

Today, Ali Abdo visited the Environment Authority of Oman 🇴🇲, to tackle the opportunities for more collective positive impact on the environment, as well equipping youth with the needed awareness and skills in the domain of sustainability. Ali also visited the Egyptian School in Muscat, where he engaged in lively discussions with the promising students of the school. Ali explained the concept of sustainability, and stressed its importance for preserving our planet.
