Fusion for Energy (F4E) is the European Union’s Joint Undertaking for ITER and the Development of Fusion Energy. The organisation was created under the Euratom Treaty by a decision of the Council of the European Union in order to meet three objectives: F4E is responsible for providing Europe’s contribution to ITER, the world’s largest scientific partnership that aims to demonstrate fusion as a viable and sustainable source of energy. ITER brings together seven parties that represent half of the world’s population – the EU, Russia, Japan, China, India, South Korea and the United States. F4E also supports fusion research and development initiatives through the Broader Approach Agreement, signed with Japan – a fusion energy partnership which will last for 10 years. Ultimately, F4E will contribute towards the construction of demonstration fusion reactors. F4E is established for a period of 35 years from 19 April 2007 and is located in Barcelona, Spain.

The Linear IFMIF Prototype Accelerator (LIPAc) gets ready to break new ground As part of the 🇪🇺 🇯🇵 Broader Approach agreement, Fusion for Energy (F4E) and National Institutes for Quantum Science and Technology (QST) are developing LIPAc, a demonstrator for future facilities testing fusion materials like IFMIF-DONES. The teams recently closed a successful round of beam operations at LIPAc and are now preparing its final configuration, with a new Superconducting Radio Frequency (SRF) section. From prototype to series production: green light for #ITER Divertor Inner Vertical Targets!🟢 Fusion for Energy (F4E) and ALSYMEX have signed a contract for the manufacturing of 13 units, after the real-scale prototype was successfully tested and qualified. The targets will be placed in the bottom of the ITER device, facing the plasma. Europe and Japan build knowledge on materials for future fusion reactors 🧱 As part of the 🇪🇺 🇯🇵 Broader Approach agreement, Fusion for Energy and National Institutes for Quantum Science and Technology (QST) are collaborating in R&D for the breeding blanket, a key component for the self-sufficiency of machines like #DEMO. EUROfusion scientists will start an experimentation campaign in the coming months. 🤝 The final loading of the two Vacuum Vessel segments for #ITER, produced by #BelleliEnergy under the contract between Fusion for Energy and the #AMW consortium (Ansaldo, Mangiarotti, Walter Tosto), has been completed. The ceremony, attended by all the involved workforce, celebrated the dedication, commitment, and professionalism that led to this outstanding achievement. Among the authorities present at the ceremony were the Lombardy Region's Assessor for University, Research, and Innovation Alessandro Fermi; Chief of Staff of the Province of Mantua Fabio Venturi; Head of the Territorial Planning, Navigation, Construction, and Environment Area of the Province of Mantua Alessandro Gatti; Mayor of Mantua Mattia Palazzi; President of the Mincio Park Maurizio Pellizzer; and Juan Knaster, representative of Fusion for Energy EUDA. During their speeches, the authorities emphasized the importance of #fusion as a #futuretechnology to address the challenges posed by the energy crisis. They highlighted how Belleli Energy represents a center of excellence in the region, capable of carrying out such significant projects. The cargo was then transferred onto a barge and departed from Belleli Energy's dock to Porto Marghera, ready for shipment. This milestone marks the final step in a long evolutionary journey and demonstrates Belleli Energy's capability to complete large-scale technological and engineering projects. Belleli is now considered among the European leaders in #nuclear component manufacturing and is ready to take on the next challenges!
