ChildFund Ethiopia received recognition from the IO for its outstanding achievements in the fiscal year 2024. The organization excelled in several areas, particularly in financial management, grant management, and effective partnership budgeting. The team's exceptional efforts were acknowledged with several awards, including those for sponsorship management, grants management and acquisition, booth presentation, and annual operational planning (AOP) at the grand African Leadership Team meeting in Addis Ababa.

"Celebrating the International Youth Day on August 12 under the theme, 'From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development,' we emphasize the crucial role young people play in using digital technologies to drive sustainable progress. At this moment we acknowledge Ethiopian youth who possess the professional competencies, skills, and ethics necessary to contribute to and benefit from the country’s development."

🌳🌲🌴 Bäume bedeuten Leben. Sie filtern #Wasser, reinigen die Luft und bieten Tieren ihren Lebensraum. Bäume liefern #Nahrung und können zu einem geregelten Einkommen beitragen. Sie schützen auch vor Naturkatastrophen wie Überschwemmungen und Erosionen. Sie spenden Schatten und können die Grundtemperatur senken. Und sie füllen den Boden mit Nährstoffen, wodurch die Landwirtschaft gefördert wird.  ℹ Insgesamt sind weltweit mehr als 1,5 Milliarden Menschen für ihren Lebensunterhalt von Bäumen abhängig. 👆 So zum Beispiel auch in #Äthiopien. Dort ist Abholzung ein großes Problem. Um die Lebensgrundlagen vieler Menschen und die natürlichen Ressourcen nachhaltig zu schützen, muss dem Wegfallen von Bäumen und Wäldern entgegengewirkt werden. 💪 Daher ist die #Aufforstung dort extrem wichtig. In unseren Projekten setzen sich sowohl Frauen- als auch Schulgruppen für mehr #Umweltschutz ein – in dem sie Baumsetzlinge großziehen und diese vielzählig einpflanzen. 😍 Ein beeindruckendes Beispiel von Veränderung zeigt unser Vorher-Nachher-Bild! Eine zuvor unfruchtbare, wüstenartige Gegend wird jetzt von Pflanzen und Bäumen dominiert und erstrahlt in sattem Grün.

How can you ensure you are leading effectively? "A leader is anyone who has the ability to influence their area of work within an organization. Anyone can be a leader. Leadership is not exclusive to those at the top. As a leader, always ask yourself: How often am I leading? Did I lead anything today? What can I do to lead? What can I do to empower others to lead? Personally, there are days when I ask myself these questions and realize that I didn't lead anything all day. But still, that doesn't stop me. It's a wrap! Our week-long annual Africa Leadership Team meeting in Addis Ababa ended today. It has been an intense and productive five days as our teams reflected on last year's performance and developed strategies to accelerate our programs across the continent. Many thanks to our colleagues from ChildFund International, ChildFund Deutschland, WeWorld Onlus, Children Believe, ChildFund New Zealand, Barnfonden, African Union, African Child Policy Forum (ACPF), ChildFund Sénégal ChildFund Sierra Leone, ChildFund Kenya, ChildFund Ethiopia, ChildFund Uganda, ChildFund Guinea, ChildFund The Gambia, ChildFund Zambia and ChildFund Mozambique who joined us for this workshop. During the Africa Region Leadership Team meeting, ChildFund Ethiopia presented the childcare support in productive safety net program a collaborative initiative by the World Bank and ChildFund Ethiopia that aims to enhance women's ability to work and generate income, thereby improving their wellbeing and promoting Early Child Development. The project provided subsidized and enhanced quality community-based childcare services to increase women's participation in the labor market in Ethiopia. Overall, the project has benefited more than 1000 children, parents and care givers and increase the buy in by the community and the government.

The Africa Regional Team's high-level leaders conducted a project visit to ChildFund Ethiopia's local partners. They visited the Future Hope Integrated Development Organization (FHIDO) and saw the achievements in Early Childhood Development (ECD), Digital Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLA), and youth-friendly sexual and reproductive health (SRH) programs. At the Addis Integrated Development Organization, they observed plastic waste collection and management done by cooperatives which the team appreciated the business model. In addition, they visited the Love for the Children and Family Development Charitable Organization, where they showcased Income Generating Activities (IGA), youth centers, and special needs education programs. The group at Chora for Children and Family Development Organization looked to youth-friendly sexual and reproductive health services and met with sponsored children engaged in various organizations who had begun earning their own income. Those who visited the EOC Genete Eyesus Child and Family Development Organization's End of Course stopped over the livelihood intervention programs, including the poultry farm and small businesses.

We are hosting an engaging panel discussion on addressing the critical issue of online sexual exploitation and abuse of children in Africa. On the panel, we have various experts: Dr Joan Nyanyuki, the Executive Director of the African Child Policy Forum (ACPF), Nena Thundu, Program Coordinator of the Ending Harmful Practices Unit at the African Union Commission, Danielle Lilly, Director of Policy at ChildFund International and Chege Ngugi, Africa Regional Director at ChildFund International. Our Advocacy Manager and Liaison to the African Union, Joshua Ongwae is moderating this session. Discussions focused on accelerating evidence-based advocacy and collaborating with various stakeholders, including governments, communities and the private sector, to fight online abuse and protect children online.
