About us
We are Population Services International (PSI), the world’s leading non-profit social marketing organization. We work to make it easier for people in the developing world to lead healthier lives and plan the families they desire by marketing affordable products and services that range from mosquito nets to contraceptives to HIV testing. We are a $560m enterprise based in Washington, DC, operating in the private and public sectors in more than 65 countries. PSI Ethiopia is an innovative network member of PSI with a team of more than 140 people passionate about marketing and dedicated to serving Sara! Since 2003, we have marketed products and led programs to prevent HIV, improve reproductive health, and improve child health. We market condoms and increase condom use among people most at risk of HIV. We increase access to clean water by selling Wuha Agar, a water disinfectant. At PSI Ethiopia we do more than simply provide products and services, we seek to create true change – buy making markets work for the poor – to increase the use of critical health products and services that are available, affordable, and desirable to the most vulnerable Ethiopian people.

PSI Ethiopia Hands Over Liyu Class Toilets to Private Enterprises in Arbaminch. On September 25, 2024, PSI Ethiopia officially handed over three #LiyuClass Toilets in Arbaminch to private enterprise owners, who will now manage these public facilities. The handover ceremony was attended by government officials and representatives from the city mayor’s office. Strategically constructed in busy marketplaces, the toilets aim to serve more communities while contributing to the elimination of open defecation. Ato Desta Dembele, the Arbaminch city mayor's office head, highlighted the broader impact of the initiative. Beyond providing access to clean public toilets, the project has created job opportunities for local youth through private enterprises and supports the city’s urban beautification efforts. He also thanked PSI Ethiopia for its ongoing support. PSI Ethiopia acknowledges the city municipality's crucial role in the project's success, including securing construction sites, overseeing the progress, and ensuring water access for the toilets. Dr Dorothy Balaba, PSI Ethiopia’s Country Representative, praised the government’s efforts to achieve a cleaner environment by 2030 through the national TSEDU campaign and confirmed PSI Ethiopia’s support. We are also under construction of Liyu Class Toilets in other major cities which will also play its part in creating cleaner Ethiopia. Additionally, PSI Ethiopia is now implementing different #sanitation focused projects that can play a significant role in achieving the national #TSEDUCampaign. We are now currently implementing the USAID Market for Sanitation Activity and the USAID Urban WASH Activity which will be the key to improving the sanitation sector in Ethiopia. During the handover ceremony, the PSI Ethiopia leadership team and city administration officials planted trees together as a symbol of their commitment to combating climate change.

SAHQI Program Review: Advancing Reproductive Health in South Ethiopia On September 5, 2024, the Strengthening Adolescent Health & Quality Improvement (SAHQI) Program team conducted a key performance review meeting in South Ethiopia's Gerese Woreda. The meeting brought together Woreda Health Office Managers, Health Center Directors, Linkage Supervisors, Family Planning Service Providers, and Health Extension Workers to evaluate the impact of the SAHQI program. Discussions centered around significant improvements in family planning services, particularly in method uptake, continuity, and client satisfaction, especially among adolescent girls and young women. SAHQI continues to empower women to make informed decisions about contraceptive methods, strengthening reproductive health services across the region. #SAHQI #FamilyPlanning #ReproductiveHealth #WomensHealth #AdolescentHealth #ClientCenteredCare
