British #architecture earns more from international work (£1.3bn) 📈 than any other European country’s architectural sector. Great to be back in #Paris for a two-day showcase highlighting UK architecture in the historic British Ambassador’s Residence – celebrating its 300th anniversary this year and previously owned by Pauline Bonaparte, Napoleon’s sister. The architecture and engineering sector is worth c£25 billion to the UK economy, employing 90,000 people and leading the development of sustainable construction principles. It was inspiring to witness the tremendous innovation, sustainability and style that infuse the British architecture and engineering scene, demonstrated so powerfully by the 18 brilliant firms from #Scotland, #London and the #Midlands at the event. 📐 I was also pleased to talk to French journalists about the exciting opportunities for UK-France partnership in this sector and beyond, and to join a roundtable discussion with UK Exports Minister Gareth Thomas, Franco-British Chamber of Commerce & Industry and a range of major British businesses on how we can further expand our extensive trading relationship with France (£105bn/yr). 🇬🇧🤝🇫🇷 Special thanks to British Ambassador to France, Menna Rawlings, DBT Country Director, Jo Hawley and their teams at the British Embassy Paris for putting this tremendous showcase together. Ambassador Menna Rawlings is welcoming hundreds of guests to discover the innovative designs of British architects at the British Ambassador’s Residence this week. From sustainable infrastructure to urban technology, the future of civil engineering is on show at the Hôtel de Charost, which marks its 300th anniversary this year. Minister for Services, Small Businesses and Exports Gareth Thomas MP and Trade Commissioner for Europe Chris Barton CMG spoke at the event, celebrating the UK’s £6 billion architecture sector which exports £1.3 billion in services and supports 90,000 jobs.
