[Insights] Anyone who has waited at the airport for a delayed flight has certainly wondered about the cause (and probably moaned) 😉 📈 Europe saw an increase in air traffic over the summer of 2023, but industry recovery comes at a price when airspace is finite! Busier skies and capacity shortfalls resulted in a 41% rise in Air Traffic Flow Management (ATFM) delays, caused by a combination of factors. Looking beyond the unpleasant passenger experience and added costs for airlines and airports, Isabel Franke-Chaudet of Egis takes a closer look at the numbers. Analysing EUROCONTROL’s recent network performance overview, she examines how unpredictable weather, deviations to planned flight paths, ATC capacity restrictions and staffing issues impact network operations. 🛫 ⛅The situation is complex, but there is a silver lining. For smoother and more efficient air traffic control, providers can turn to a range of solutions that Isabel discusses in her article. 👉Read more: https://lnkd.in/eZUM6mpc #ATC #airspace #ATFM #digitalisation
