📢 This morning in Ljubljana, Mr Dušan Mes, Director General Slovenske železnice, hosted a delegation of the #UICrail Management Board. The meeting was attended by the Top Management of the respective Business Entities of the Slovenian Railways with whom the UIC team had lively exchanges on strategic issues, business specifics and developments in Slovenia and the Balkan region. ▶️ In depth discussions took place around the research agenda and the involvement of the region in flagship projects such as #FRMCS (Future Railway Mobile Communication System) the Digital Automatic Coupler (#DAC) or #ticketing with the implementation of Sector Ticketing Road map in the context of which UIC, with its members, is developing a number of tools to support the enhancement of the customer experience in the context of a sustainable and smart mobility strategy. Operational topics were also high on the agenda especially in areas where UIC technical assets facilitate seamless and interoperable cross border exchanges. 👉 Mr François DAVENNE stressed the fact that “UIC’s action in Europe and in other regions aims at facilitating border crossing for the benefit of members. UIC strongly supports the completion of TEN-T corridors and the association’s technical work program is designed to support this” he added that “beyond the historical and special relationship UIC has with SŽ, Slovenia and the Balkan region play a key role in European and Eurasian connectivity and is an important player for an efficient European railway network. 🤝 Mr Dušan Mes concluded the exchanges by expressing his satisfaction with the meeting and the cooperation activities between the two organisations so far. He expressed his hope that this cooperation would continue to strengthen and lead to new opportunities and significant achievements.

🎤 Key Takeaways from the ARA High-Speed Rail Conference 2024 in Sydney! High-speed rail is a key priority on Australia's development agenda, as highlighted by a two-day conference in Sydney, where the UIC participated at the invitation of Australasian Railway Association (ARA). During a panel discussion, Philippe LORAND delivered a comprehensive overview of the global growth of high-speed rail (HSR) 🚄 In his presentation, he highlighted that since 2007, the high-speed rail network has expanded significantly, growing from 10,000 km to over 60,000 km of operational lines worldwide today, with an additional 15,000 km under construction. This remarkable growth reflects the increasing importance of HSR as a key solution to modern transport challenges. 🗺 What drives this expansion? Several factors are propelling HSR forward: ✔ Transport Efficiency: High-speed rail offers a faster, more efficient mode of transport for long-distance travel. ✔ Unmatched Safety and Reliability: HSR is recognized globally for maintaining the highest safety standards and operational reliability. ✔ Sustainability: As a green transport solution, HSR contributes significantly to environmental goals, with lower carbon emissions and energy consumption compared to other transport modes. He also underscored the role of UIC in shaping the future of HSR through: ✔ Innovation: UIC collaborates with operators and infrastructure managers to advance the latest technologies and practices, ensuring HSR stays competitive in the evolving mobility market. ✔ Sustainability & Resilience: UIC’s work prioritizes sustainability and resilience in infrastructure development, ensuring that HSR networks can adapt to future demands while reducing environmental impact. Additionally, UIC is fostering best practices for the integration of high-speed rail with other transport modes, such as conventional rail, metro systems, and even airlines. This is key to creating seamless mobility solutions that provide door-to-door convenience for passengers, aligning HSR with modern travel expectations. 📢 As part of the conference, UIC also took the opportunity to announce the Call for Papers for the 12th UIC World Congress on High-Speed Rail, which will be held in Beijing in July 2025. The congress, titled "HSR: Innovation and Development for a Better Life", will be an unparalleled gathering of high-speed rail experts and stakeholders from around the globe 🌐 Given the level of interest and engagement we experienced during the ARA conference, we are confident that Australia will be strongly represented at the upcoming UIC World Congress. 👉 We encourage everyone to explore the Call for Papers and the press release linked here: uichighspeed.org. This 12th edition promises to be an exceptional event, and we look forward to meeting many of you in Beijing next July!
