After years of anticipation, a privacy reform Bill has been introduced to parliament. If enacted, the Bill will implement significant changes, with broader enforcement rights for the OAIC and a new statutory tort for serious invasions of privacy that may result in more private litigation. However, more substantive changes will have to wait for a later date, with the Government indicating that it will continue to work on a further tranche of reforms. Our Privacy experts have summarised the changes, what the path forwards might look like and what businesses need to plan for in the future. https://ow.ly/IXYL50TlG53

As we gear up for COP29 in Baku, our carbon market experts look at an important development that isn’t often discussed: Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcomes (ITMOs). Akin to carbon trading for nations, ITMOs are a way for countries that reduce emissions more than their Paris target to sell the excess ‘spared’ emissions to another country that has fallen short. ITMOs are not just a compliance tool – they catalyse financial support for sustainable initiatives. With the ITMO market set to expand, understanding its operation under Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement is crucial for stakeholders. Meng Su and Suodi Xi give a practical guide to ITMOs, how they differ from other carbon credits and the opportunities they present for businesses to engage in climate action. https://ow.ly/kf2Y50ToMZ4 #ITMOs #COP29 #SustainableInvestment #KWMClimate
