Presenting our Gold Sponsor for the UAE Sustainable Behaviour Hackathon: Leela's Lunches. Leela’s Lunches is an education food caterer dedicated to embedding sustainability into every aspect of their operations. From sourcing local ingredients and producing low-carbon recipes to reducing waste through reusable trays and compostable packaging, Leela’s Lunches actively works to minimize their environmental footprint and inspire behaviour change. As part of its continued focus on further reducing its carbon footprint, it has recently begun replacing its fleet of delivery vehicles with electric ones. Through partnerships with schools & nurseries, Leela’s Lunches educates students on the importance of eco-friendly choices and sustainable eating. Their programs like Farm to Fork empower young minds to connect with real food, teaching them where it comes from, how to read labels, and why freshly cooked meals are vital for their growth and development. By combining sustainable practices with engaging educational activities, Leela’s Lunches and the educational institutions they serve are driving meaningful behaviour change for a healthier, more sustainable future. We are grateful for their participation and look forward to hosting a successful event with their support! #sustainableschoolfood #lowcarbon #education #behaviourchange Lavi Chandra Kieran Shaw Warda Amrani Fred Dorsimont Brett Girven Alan Smith Nicola Ashton Lisa Johnson Rebecca Coulter Dr. Emilija Stojanovski Lee Holloway Emily Coates

We’re pleased to announce our sponsorship of the ‘Students in Sustainability Award’ of the 4th China Schools Awards hosted by the British Chamber of Commerce in China (BritCham China). The awards showcase innovation and excellence in China’s K-12 education sector 🇨🇳 The ‘Students in Sustainability Award’ recognises the sustainability project that best showcases its students’ innovative thought, design skills and true understanding of the impact sustainability projects have on our environment and communities. This year, students from schools across China submitted projects on topics that included campus carbon neutrality, waste reduction, recycling, composting, and whole campus initiatives. Congratulations to the students from the shortlisted schools – Dulwich College Shanghai Pudong, Keystone Academy, Beijing and Malvern College Chengdu 🎖️ We look forward to announcing the winner and connecting with sustainability-driven schools at the forum and dinner to be held in Beijing on March 7th! #sustainability #studentaction #networking #climateinnovation

Last week, we kicked off the first skills training session of the Sustainable Behaviour Hackathon in which 50 students and teachers from 9 schools convened to learn about behavioural science for sustainability with Fred Dorsimont from Behaven. One of the key messages of the session was that many changes required for a sustainable world depend on individual choices. From what we eat to how we travel or use energy, our everyday behaviours have a significant impact. Research shows that 53% of the solutions to reduce emissions come from adoption behaviours—like switching to electric vehicles or improving home energy efficiency, whilst 9% comes from curtailment behaviours—such as eating less meat or taking fewer flights. Following three hours of skills training in the lead up to the Hackathon at GEMS Founders School - Masdar City next month and on the day itself, students will apply cutting edge behavioural science-based tools to influence sustainable change in their schools in four key areas: Food, Waste, Energy, and Travel. What a meaningful and action-packed agenda! It's so exciting to see our TASS members and student ambassadors actively engaging with the community by organising events, participating in discussions, and leading best practices in their schools 💬 Congrats to David Gerber, Sarah Walsh, and the eco-council at Fairgreen International School for hosting a successful Student Environmental Leadership Conference and thank you to everyone that joined! Yesterday, selected children from Regent International School attended the The Alliance for Sustainable Schools (TASS) Student Environmental Leadership Conference. 💚 The conference began with a student-led panel discussion which explored various local environmental issues (such as transport, waste and biodiversity); celebrated sustainable achievements in U.A.E. schools; discussed how students overcome obstacles whilst balancing their priorities and identified ways in which we can empower the next generation of changemakers. After that, we had the opportunity to explore the grounds of The Sustainable City and visited the SEE Institute, which is the region’s first net-zero carbon building. At the cutting-edge institute, they conduct, encourage and support environmental research projects with an emphasis on sustainability in the built environment. Finally, our young leaders had the opportunity to collaborate and network with their peers, sharing sustainable practice and identifying achievable actions they could take in the next 5 days, 5 weeks and 5 months to make a green change within their own schools and communities. What an inspiring event! Thank you David Gerber (as well as his wonderful Conference Leadership Team and Eco Council from Fairgreen International School) for hosting the event and empowering our young leaders to make a positive environmental difference! 🌎 #Sustainability #TASS #EnvironmentalEducation #YouthLeadership #GreenFuture

We're thrilled to announce that The Alliance has been granted funding from the Environment and Conservation Fund (ECF) for the Sustainable School Food Programme! 🥳 The 12-month programme will pilot low-carbon school meals across 10 local schools in Hong Kong in collaboration with school food catering companies, and promote their adoption by increasing students' knowledge of the importance of sustainable food and by harnessing the science of behaviour change. We expect that this pilot project can become a model for a larger scale effort involving many more schools in the coming years. Thank you to the Hong Kong government's Environment and Ecology Bureau for their support and commitment to sustainability 🌱 #sustainablefood #climatefriendlymeals #lowcarbonliving Anthony Dixon Ben McQuhae Caitlin Shem Professor Elvis Au, BBS Matt Sears

What influences sustainable behaviour? According to a recent Kantar survey, 84% of people want to make sustainable choices, but only 27% actually do. Studies show that intentions account for only 28% of the variance in behaviour. This means other factors have a greater influence. To help students understand and tackle this, we have developed the Sustainable Behaviour Change Hackathon in partnership with Behaven. Using bespoke science-based tools, Behaven helps people analyse the whole system of behavioural influences and design solutions that encourage them to make sustainable choices ✅ The first online skills training for the UAE edition of the Sustainable Behaviour Change Hackathon is kicking off this Thursday, in which co-founder of Behaven, Fred Dorsimont, will introduce participants to behavioural science for sustainability – helping us understand why behaviour change is essential for a sustainable world. Following three skills training webinars, students will convene for the in-person Hackathon at GEMS Founders School - Masdar City on 20th February where they will work in teams to design their behaviour change interventions 🧠 Interested schools can register for their staff and students here: https://lnkd.in/dMp5J988

Achieving sustainability isn’t just about innovation — it’s also about driving behaviour change. According to the UK Climate Change Committee, 62% of the required emissions reductions depend on people adopting new habits, like reducing meat consumption or choosing public transport. The Sustainable Behaviour Change Hackathon equips students to identify the specific barriers to change within their school and design tailored and actionable solutions that encourage sustainable choices. Some of the work students will be doing include: 🧠 Learning about behavioural science for sustainability 🧠 Choosing a target behaviour to encourage 🧠 Identifying barriers to change 🧠 Creating behaviour change solutions 🧠 Devising and presenting an action plan Thanks to the generous support of our sponsors, Leela's Lunches and Food Nation Catering Services L.L.C, the Hackathon will be kicking off with an introductory webinar: ‘Behavioural Science for Sustainability’ on Thursday 16 January. We're excited to welcome Bangkok Patana School to The Alliance 🇹🇭 Set on an expansive green campus, the school has integrated solar panels to provide renewable energy and innovative waste reduction programmes to promote recycling and responsible consumption. Their #electric school bus shuttles, introduced to encourage public transport use, are a sustainable alternative to individual car travel and support cleaner air in Bangkok. Thank you to the Head of School, Chris Sammons, faculty members Cindy Adair, Craig White, and Sunanthinee H., and the student environmental committee for their commitment to sustainability.
