With new rules on annual Corporate Sustainability Reporting #CSRD and reputational, investor and supply chain risks for those who lag behind in creating a #BiodiversityStrategy, how are you finding the complicated array of emerging nature-reporting frameworks out there? BFBI are working with National Parks & Wildlife Service to make sure Irish businesses have all the support they need to navigate this transition to #NaturePositive. Take a survey to help you to identify the skills, knowledge and competencies that may not yet be represented in your business. #BizBioSkills https://lnkd.in/egfZGrb7 The results will allow #BusinessForBiodiversity Ireland to make recommendations to the SOLAS Skills & Labour Market Research Unit and the National Parks and Wildlife Service / Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage to ensure training and educational options are developed to help businesses meet nature-related reporting responsibilities. #ActionsForNature

Congratulations Aoibhinn, particularly after the excellent job chairing the Citizens Assembly on #BiodiversityLoss which BFBI was part of - looking forward to the development of the advisory committee for #NatureRestoration 🌱
I am delighted & feel privileged to be announced as Chairperson of a new Independent Advisory Committee on Nature Restoration, as announced Minister for Nature, Heritage and Electoral Reform, Malcolm Noonan TD, and Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Charlie McConalogue TD yesterday. 🌳 The Committee will be tasked with providing advice to the Minister on the content of Ireland’s Nature Restoration Plan, which is to be developed under the EU Nature Restoration Law. The IAC will be responsible for considering the outputs from technical, inter-departmental working groups across themes of Land, Sea, Towns and Cities, and Finance. It will also engage with a stakeholder participation process and ensure that the Plan addresses the views of the public, key groups and sectors. Advising how the NRL is implemented across the country as a whole of government approach will benefit not only biodiversity, but also improve Ireland’s resilience to the climate changes we are already experiencing. I’m very much looking forward to this work & to working with the rest of the committee. #NatureRestorationLaw #environment #biodiversity https://lnkd.in/eAh4SkW8.

Did you know that people in counties with a history of flooding, water shortages, or wildfire have a heightened awareness of the risks climate change poses? 🌎 The EPA has launched interactive Climate Opinion Maps that illustrate how climate change beliefs, risk perceptions, and policy support vary across counties and regions. The findings show that people across Ireland continue to be in almost full agreement that climate change is happening, and large proportions of the population are worried about it. Explore EPA's Climate Opinion Maps to see how your county views climate action policies and understands climate risks: bit.ly/3QoLYIF #ClimateChange #ClimateAwareness #ClimateCrisis #EnvironmentalPolicy #ClimateRisk

🌳 The first Peatland Standard has launched in Ireland for public consultation. The Standard, developed by Peatland Finance Ireland and supported by Amazon's Right Now Climate Fund, will encourage financing for farmers and landowners to accelerate peatland restoration on their land. The certification will help farmers and other landowners prove the benefits of peatland restoration projects including emission reductions, biodiversity, and water benefits. Irish peatlands are waterlogged, carbon-rich habitats for diverse species which regulate water flow, quality and flood risks. However, most Irish bogs are degraded due to human activities, and their degraded state means they currently release over 2 million tonnes of greenhouse gases annually. The public consultation is open until 5 December, seeking input from farmers and landowners, community networks, potential project developers, investors and the public at www.peatlandfinance.ie.
